I used a 120mm fan on the XP-90 without mounting, the fan is around 125CFM. Temperature is still hovering around 50+C, using the Asus PC Probe.

Does that actually improve temps over a high airflow 92mm?

nope it wouldn't. dead spot on the 120mm fan is quite big, a 92mm fan would be more effective seeing a XP90 was made for 92mm fans.

I don't have a high speed 92mm fan around. So the 120mm is definitely better than the 92mm I have.

so in conclusion, p4 prescott generation. what is the average temp. ?? with normal casing and normal fan.

50 idle -> 65-70 full load is average.

core stepping wise: C0 runs hottest, then D0 then E0. at the end of the day, still hot and slow because all they really managed to do was reduce idle temperatures. full load is still around 70 tops before throttling kicks in

But Prescott has a lot of room for overclocking if you can handle the heat.

I just build this system last night for my aunt. Upon load, went into the bios and guess what .. 70c. What in the world is happening? I'm using stock cooling. The case have the 'breathing hose' right on the cpu spot. Did I do something wrong?

Are you sure the stock HSF is mounted properly? You might want to remove it and have a look just to make sure
