Here are a few shots of my Media Center PC that runs 24 hours a day. 1 Month or so of dust, it's only the fine stuff because I have a filter on the case
A friend of mine used to have a AMD K6-2. The reason he had me work on it was b/c the computer suddenly "lost" 32MB of memory. I figured one of the memory sticks had come loose. Opened it up and the whole motherboard was grey, almost all the surface mounted chips where not visible, they were all covered completely by dust. After cleaning it the 32 MB reappeared. Other than the memory loss, it never crashed or had any other problems due to the dust.
Actually, talking about snakes, my mother's air conditioner choked a few months back. It was a wall unit.. and it ran fine until one day, when I switched it on, there was a loud thump! and while the compressor ran, there was no air output. When we called a repair team in, they took down the entire unit and found a dead grass snake inside.
Wow, nice stories and dusty CPU fans you have there!!! I'm cleaning my Case fans and the fans themselves about every six monthes. Regarding the CPU, I don't need to clean it as I use home-made Watercooling system with a Waterblock installed on the CPU. Regarding the Radiator and its fans, I'm cleaning them from time to time, and using some air filters for them as well!!!
i always try to keep mine clean... since im a little overclocked with my intel *toaster* prescott. at least it wasn't one of those horror story!!!
