I am thinking about building a PC with the help of my dad. I just wanted to make sure everything would work with each other. Here a list of all the parts I would eventually order, probably not all at once. Mobo (w/CPU) - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1828854&sku=MBM-K8NE-3400 Video Card - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1766896&sku=P450-8564 RAM (2x 1Gb)http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1071020&sku=ULT31664 Power Supply - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=541436&sku=D15-1000 Cooling - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1710664&sku=T925-2170 Hard Drive - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1834348&sku=THD-1200AA R DVD/CD Drive - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1649374&sku=N27-1888 Case - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1178032&sku=TC3J-4014 I know I might be missing some stuff like a case fan which I will probably take off my current PC. Besides that what else am I missing? thanks
i would take this 3dcard over those. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150098 This ram over those. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145440 I would recommend this PSU over that one (good PSUs are a must for any system) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103457 I hope you realize that you need watercooling components to use that heatsink. Don't go for refurbed harddrives. Suggestions. Hard disk http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144011 DVD Burner (faster speeds) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827129164#DetailSpecs
Thats nice but I want to buy from tigerdirect and I don't need to have the best of everything. As long as it will run good because right now I am on a P4 2.0GHz with 256mb of RAM and an nvidia mx440 with 64mb of memory and I have a 40gb hard drive. And i changed the cooling to this http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1389577&CatId=0 And is this good for a hard drive? http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1477509&sku=THD-1600M3
What a rip off! For the Thermaltake 'heat exchanger', I could almost get the best waterblock money can buy! TBH, your choices of components are really appalling, especially when I could get a better card at much cheaper price, and put the RAM into the RIGHT place instead of a rather slow 6600! A decent 400W is more than enough for your system. That 550W at that price is scaring me!
Haha, thats why I came here. You guys are the experts. So I want to use tigerdirect because they have the mobo-cpu bundles and i have a gift card there. If you guys could point me in the right direction I am looking to spend under 1000 bucks. I want an AMD processor and at least 2gb of ram and at least 256mb nvidia card.
The amount of video card memory is not critical. I would get a 128MB 6600GT as PsY suggested, or you can ditch the Thermaltake cooling (use the stock cooler - it's good enough) and get a 6800GS. Edit: Just happened to come across this review of Albatron's 512MB 6600: http://www.rbmods.com/Articles/Albatron/6600_512/1.php You can see from the tests that the 6600GT is way ahead.
Ok, so here is the final hard drive http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1697350&sku=THD-200H Here is the video card http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1698817&sku=E145-5146
You're still going after cards simply because they have more memory. Read the article that I linked in my previous post - it does not make a difference.
I'm still very disappointed many people out there are still buying based on memory size... They think more memory = faster. I always hear conversations like this in the 'background'. No wonder manufacturers are taking advantage of consumer's ignorance, no offense.
for that price, I would go for a 7800GT. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1526436&CatId=1560 Find a cheaper one coz u can get em cheaper than 300. Newegg has em for 295. I personally dont like tiger direct coz they have bad rep. I mean if u wanna use ur gift card and get the combos by all means do, but try looking elsewhere for hardware. I usually buy from a few places when I build a PC.
Thanks psychotik, i didn't see that card. I could have sworn i saw the 7800 costs 500 bucks. And if I get more money after that i will get another one and use sli, but what wattage is a good PSU if I was to do SLI? Well than what should I look for in a card if not memory
Well the thing on the card where you plug the monitor in looks different. So now I probably need another monitor. I really don't know that much about AMD. What is optepron? Which is better: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1649706&CatId=2040 or http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...-details.asp?EdpNo=1366613&Sku=CP1-A64-3500 E
Get another powersupply. The one that you have in your post is junk tbh. Get one from Enermax, Antec, sparkle, fotron, or ocz. Good powersupplies go a long way. Get one with a 20+4 ATX powerconnector. The processors that you just linked is socket 939 processors but the cpu and mobo that u posted in your first post is socket 754. Which one are u gonna use?
Ya, I was looking and found a geforce 7800 with a mobo for like 350 bucks and it had 4 ram slots instead of 3 and it was socket 939. I don't know what to do. Can you guys suggest parts for each category that are good ones, I seem to go for the bad ones. I am trying to keep it uner 1000
Ok, lets just start over. Starting with a mobo. Is this a good mobo? http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1644233&sku=E145-7810
It's quite decent actually, I know a couple of people who are using it, and Anandtech gave it a good review: http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2506 (Jetway is the original manufacturer [OEM]) Almost all S939 motherboards will have 4 RAM slots... CPU: Get the 3500+, you won't really use the extra 'advantages' of an Opteron
Actually 2gb of ram is only like 120 bucks. And speaking of ram, I am getting 512mb of ram for this PC just to hold me over so I don't kill myself. How do I know what my mobo is compatible with. I have pc2100 right now but I want to know if it supports pc3200. Anyone know how I can find out.
