Are you sure this mod isn't for certain Galaxy 9600 GSO's only? I remember reading this last Spring: www.LLY.get.to: How to Softmod 9600GSO into 8800GTS 512MB Part1 That article mentioned to the same link with the modded bios.
It's for certain GeForce 9600 GSOs with 8 memory chips. I don't think the brand is as important as the fact that the card MUST have 8 memory chips. It's all stated in the guide. In any case, should you try the mod out, be sure to make a backup of your graphics BIOS first.
Oh man, I think I need to find those 9600GSOs... wait, they sold it out already!! Some few months ago they were heaps of them in the store. Now..they could be displaced by the 9800s.
From what I've been reading it seems like this mod will only work with a limited number of Galaxy 9600 GSO cards which were released using leftover 8800 GTS PCB's. These were only available in parts of Asia and Australia. All of the EVGA 9600 GSO's I have seen(including my own)have 6 memory chips.
