You don't intend to play any 3D games? Cause if you don't, practically all the low-end graphics cards are powerful enough to do 1080p video.

Good idea on the monitor. A good monitor will really improve your experience. :)

    Hi Adrian. :D

nah. I'm too old and busy for games already.

I've done some research and come out with this. Its the lowest end i can get. I'm planning to use the onboard integrated Intel GMA X4500 graphics only.

    dual core e5700 RM188
    asus P5G41T-M LX RM205
    KINGSTON PC1333 D3 -2GB RM65

what else should i think of before buying? if i get smaller version of mobo, can it fit nicely into my big cpu casing?

    Looks pretty good. :thumb:

Intending to buy a cheap PC for my parents too. I might get them a cheap Sempron and a board with some integrated nVidia or ATI inside. :)

Recently I bought a pretty decent machine for my dad. We had slightly higher budget.

This is what I got for him:
    i3-2100
    Kingston 4GB DDR3
    Asus P8H67M
    WD 1TB Blue

Jet: Any big casing will fit the small motherboard. That's what I did too.

    Hi The_YongGrand and Chai. :D

I had short thoughts whether to get AMD or Intel. the mobo for AMD which i choose has lower VGA then Intel mobo. Furthermore i had pretty bad experience with AMD fan before.. :wall: Gonna get Intel this time.

What is the OS for your new computer, Chai?

Intel is more efficient. The latest Sandy Bridge has acceptable intergrated graphics performance, not like you will care if you are not playing any games. But it is more expensive, and it don't get the same performance for the same price.

    Using Windows 7.

I don't know, I guessed both of them are nice too. :)

I would recommend a Windows 7 Home or a Basic for that.

Been thinking of the i3 route but the motherboards are pretty expensive. I will check the prices again when I move homes (hopefully). :thumb:

The Intel GMA X4500 HD is good enough for HD video.

But if I were you, I would spend a little more and get 4 GB RAM.

Well, I wouldn't really go with Windows 7 Starter, if you can afford a better SKU, say Home Edition.

After all, it only allows you to run 3 applications simultaneously. It will definitely put a crimp on performance.

Damn, only 3 applications? Looks kinda boring. My parents opened more than 3, that is the funny thing.

Might look into a Home Edition. Of course, I will build the PC when I move the home.

Wow what a coincidence! I bought the same motherboard as yours too few days ago. My comp broke down and had to replace a board, feeling lazy to change the CPU, so I went and purchased that board instead. :)

The funny thing it is, the board has a serial port and a parallel port. But, it's still a good stuff, I'd say.

Also, the E5700 is good too. :thumb:

Wow.. The price of external HDDs have really dropped a lot.

I'm glad you spent a bit more for 4 GB of memory. Definitely worth every sen! :D
