    That's the way! :haha:

Linux is really good, but you can forget about many things if you use Linux.

Really? Are you using Linux? Wonder if I should gie it a try. Heh...

With Linux, at least it won't crash the whole kernel because of a single driver.

Now I'm getting BSOD all the time, not knowing what is causing the problem. :wall:

Careful not to get the AACS ones though. Those are the green WD hard drives. It is not officially listed on their websites but there are some out there. I asked my friend to get it from 1 of the shops around here and he accidently bought the 640gb green for me:wall:

    AACS much slower?

  17. Max_87

It's slower, but really quiet and consumes slightly less power.

How much quieter, I'm not sure. I don't think average users can tell any difference, not even the new Velociraptor.

But AAKS is much faster. Green is variable, from 5400-7200rpm.

Actually, AFAIK, the Green doesn't have a variable spindle speed. It has a fixed speed between 5400 RPM and 7200 RPM, depending on the model and capacity. WD just refuses to divulge the actual spindle speed.

Lowering the spindle speed is supposed to significantly reduce its power consumption (hence the Green label). Indirectly, it should also run cooler and a little more resistant to shock and vibration.

If the seek time is fixed, then we should be able to roughly guess the rotational speed.
