    would a 2.5'' hdd running 24/7 on 48 C ~ 50 C be ok ??

last last month the temperature would be 38 C for idle and on load 44 C,
last month the temperature would be around 43 C- 45 C,
for the past two weeks, the temperature become constant 48 C - 50 C.

p/s. thats for idle and on load. except for gaming, will shoot up to 55 C

How did you measure it?

Well, cooler is always better, but I don't think that temperature will be a real problem.

using mobile meter, notebook hardware control, speedfan, hdtune and observation for the period and not least, sweat palm.
oh, hdd is on notebook, so notebook cooler is on all the time.
still, the temperature worried me. :?
so, it should be fine, right?

Yeah, it should be fine. Most notebook hard drives can operate in ambient temperatures of around 60 deg. C. That means their actual operating temperature can be quite high... at least 65-70 deg. C. If you know your hard drive model, you can check its tech specs.

    ya, found it, toshiba MK6034GAX

    Temperature
    Operating 5–55°C
    Non-Operating -20–60°C

looks like its near the limit :faint:

That's the ambient temperature, not the actual operating temperature, if I'm not mistaken.

You might want to grab a notebook cooler or maybe raise the back of your laptop by a centimeter so cool air can run under it, that is if you temps don't get any better. Bios update maybe?

Unless the 2.5" is a enterprise drive, they are not mean to be run 24/7. Ambient operating temperature is usually measure within 1 inch form the drive and not the drive temperature itself. Some drives has temperature sensor and would shut it down if overheat is detected. Temperature is a strong factor that determine the reliability of your drive. Running it a near max temperature would only shorten your drive life span. Good luck to your drive..

    done it, no bad sector.

already using a notebook cooler, and bios updated already.

    thanks for the explanation.

I just shutdown my laptop for couple of hours, then turn on, and browsing for a couple minutes, the temperature already 42 C and rising :faint:

i think it's normal. My old laptop hdd should to run as high as 56c swt >_< Getting a laptop cooling pad should actually work to help cool down the hdd (a good 1 of coz). Investing on a good cooling pad is worthy, don't go get a cheap 1 T_T..1 of my laptop died coz i got a cheap cooling pad =/..Now I'm using CM Infinite (You should try this..it's good imo xD)
