Ok, just got back from this year's annual trip. Since last year's pic location of the Ferrari store was so easy to figure out, lets try it again... Guess where this was taken?
Wife bought me new body 5DMkIII, glass (16-35mm & 24-70mm) and Tamrac Expedition 7x backpack "case" for the trip (skipped the bragging thread... ) and she used the "old" 7D and s90 P&S mostly. It was for 18 days, in several groups: Group 1: Cape Town (and vicinity), South Africa. Boulders Beach to see penguins but found the Hyrax or "Dassie" too. Hired a car (Chevrolet spark, P.O.S.) and drove around the cape point. Coastline pic is looking down on Simon's Town where we stayed for a few nights and the Table Mountain/Cape Town shot across the water is near Robben Island (where Nelson Mandela served time. Those using Win8 may notice that the shot is similar to one desktop background in the "Africa" theme. More to come...
continuation of group 1: Not sure what the "Dassies" are doing. More penguins and a sign describing the Dassies.
Without looking at your description, that's what I was thinking too. Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk
I can't believe the "dassie" is closely related to the elephant! LOL... I guess they want to make sure their young will be born next spring!
Before heading east along the Garden Route coast drive to our next adventure, we explored Table Mountain National Park and saw our first "wildlife". 1&2: views of Cape Point & "new" lighthouse 3: "the warning" 4: The poser at the park gate (Chacma or Cape Baboon) 5: wild birds (ostriches) 6: rest stop looking east on Garden Route
We ended up in the city of Hermanus where whale watching is very popular. Whales swim by the cliffs and can be seen readily and often. Then its off to Gansbaai to get our feet wet with some BIG fish... 1-3: Whale watching (IMO, very boring). 4-6: Cage diving with Great White sharks. Anyone watch Shark Week? This is one of their filming spots...
Back to Cape Town and the bustling V&A Waterfront. We checked out some of the cultural stuff, Bo Kaap colourful houses, views from the place we stayed, did laundry, had a nice dinner and waterfront walk.
Ishtim, you really make me want to go for a holiday. It's been ages since I've been anywhere. Whale watching - Why was it boring? I can see that it's hard to take good shots of anything. Cage dive with the Great Whites - How was it? Did it get your adrenaline going??? "We... did laundry" - LOL! We hung our laundry over lamps and the TV too. Miss the old days with the CRT TVs, which gave out a lot more heat.
It's expensive to watch whale. And once you watch them, you will probably remember them for life. No need to watch again. It's not like they can dance or sing different tune. Ishtim: nice photos! Keep them coming! Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
I didn't know that. I suppose some of the funds go towards their protection? Do they have a "Swim with the whale programme?" I guess it would be exorbitantly expensive, if there's such a thing, just like swimming with the dolphins. That's for the really rich folks.
