Finally I have a chance to ride on a modern bike instead of an almost 2 decades old bike.

Surprisingly, there're not as much differences as I thought. The key differences are the lightness of the frame. Even at around 2kg lighter, I can cycle way longer and further!

And I get to taste some of the modern hydraulic disc brakes and air suspension forks, which is a lot better than what I have on my old bike.

Did you just borrow it for a while? I like to try it out.:)

My PK, Ripper weighs about 26 pounds.:)

I think the official weight is around 12.5kg. Time to weight both mine and her bike!

It rides pretty well, but certain things like the pedal and the gear shifter is not as good. Well, potential for upgrades!

The Fox fork is really quite a big improvement. Soak out the bumpy trails very well, especially the tree roots.

It's been almost a year now since I started cycling again. Back in the day, when the Lembah Kiara park wasn't even there yet, I cycled on the rubber tappers' path.

Now there's purpose built MTB trails on the hill...It is great fun!

Nice rig. Just curious, how much air pressure in MTB tires?

I know that some of the skinny on-road tires run @ high pressures, but imagine that the wide, knobby tires would be low for better grip.

I usually pump at about 30psi. But I still ride them as low as 20psi for better grip and comfort.

This bike is not new anymore, and due to wear and tear, replacements and upgrades are needed.

Bought quite a number of parts to get it working. It is a change from 27 speed to just 20 speed. Removed a chain ring at the front, and added a cassette ring behind.

    Deore XT M780 shifter
    Deore XT M771 10-speed 11-34T cassette
Deore XT M786-GS Shadow Plus rear derailleur
    Deore SLX M667 front derailleur
    BBG Bashguard 32T

With this setup, my chain has never dropped since the upgrade. It was really bad when going over rough terrain. Can't be any happier now. :thumb:

Not all items are wear and tear. Some are required as part of the replacement/upgrading.

RIP my old bike. This bike is pretty uncomfortable for me as the bike geometry is pretty screwed up. I get backache after 30mins riding it.

So I decided to buy a new second hand bike, Santa Cruz Superlight 2011!

Looks to be in decent shape, and a good price for an entry level soft tail (aka full suspension) bike. Most of the drivetrain are migrated from the old bike.
