hmm good question... cause *nix is supposed to refer to both Unix and Linux... but teh thing is you see... Unix fits, but linux, does not have the nix part.. so i don't know....
wilfred, wilfred... what did you learn in your degree...? * + nix = wildcard + unix... referring to any flavour of unix.. Linux, Free/Open/NetBSD, Solaris, Mac OS X...
ah djspinnet: that's why I'm installing it on my VMWares at home. but still haven't had much reasons to use it.. Hmmm..
Phok: Why 8%? Well, it usually is a matter of paradigm shift and familiarity. A long time Linux user will most likely not see any reason to use/switch to Windows, and vice versa. Here's an interesting read from a guy who swithed to Windows from Linux for a week, and he brought up an interesting point in his conclusion, on humans being creatures of habit, and those habits are hard to break. http://os.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=03/10/09/0552252&tid=11 Cheers, Ken, you can always take your time, and no one's forcing you to learn Linux anyway
I skip classes too you know... better yet... I submit my practicals from the MUG room too, dash upstairs for 5 minutes, demo, then dash down again
okay back to the topic.... maybe should like do some review of the popular liveCDs out there.. and then also the installed ones.... or maybe like a comparison of differences between MS windows / Mac OS / smoe Popular Linux Distro....
One at a time... but a review of liveCDs sound interesting. I've got quite a lot of live CDs here to test and review.. Linux users are known to never mince their words and sarcasm Well, neither does Steve Ballmer
i totally agree too. If you guys ever do a part 2, you should make a review of the most used distributions and sort out whats good or/and not and help newbies choose a distribution by other things than a screenshot(lol). A lot of people ask me this question so i guess that would make a good subject.
