    DVD sync & TV reception

I have had my Asus box for about 4 months and the install was very easy. The only issue I have is the tv reception and the DVD sync.
The tv reception is poor but that could be my area, but the picture does become clear at times the only issue is the sound is naff. Any thoughts?
The DVD sync is a real issue, when in instant on mode the sound does not match the mouth movements. It is out by a few seconds, but when you play a DVD in windows mode it is perfect. Any thoughts?

I have emails Asus and they say that the new GM7 version of instant On software may fix this issue, has anyone downloaded and installed this?

Hi, im looking at buying a S1-P111 and looks fantastic but wanted to clarify some issues. Ive read various reviews and these pages but am still not 100% sure of the following points (sure others must be wondering the same).

With the S1-P111 I understand the instant-on features will work fine however when a proper gfx card is added some/all features become unavailable.

Which instant-on features can be used with a gfx card fitted? Which cannot?

Also with the instant-on dvd feature what outputs are available? and how is this affected when a gfx card is fitted as opposed the onboard gfx?

    Thanks in advance

I have my S-presso for 2 weeks and now I can say some problems and observation:
    - the power suplly was very hot after 10 min in computer mode. To do somehing I instaled a small 3 cm fan in front of barebone (exists 1 small place where I can fit this small fan) an conect the booth fan from behind the case directly to the 3th free molex over a fan controller so I can modyfy the speed. The result is fantastic, cpu temp reduced from 45-50 degrees to 38-44 (celeron 310 D), hdd (maxtor 80 gb) from 50 degrees !! to 40 . But the noise is annoying...

    - sometimes, after shut down from remote controller where I am in computer mode, or from the front touch-sensor where I am in Instant-ON mode, when I want to power on (in computer mode or Instant-on, doesn't matter) the cpu fan speed is growing approx 10 sec to the max. rpm (biiig noise:confused: ) and remain like this; on the case front panel is displayed "WAIT" message. I can't do anything, the power button or oher button is not work. The solution is to remove the electric cable from the power suplly and reconect after 10 sec. After this, the computer power on ok, and on the first screen i have a message: "Overcloking failled !!!"
"F1 to enter in BIOS", "F2 to load default BIOS and continue"...
I don't tried a overclok never, there is no support at this barebone I think.. If I shut down the windows normally, is ok, never happend this (I want to send a email to Asus this days...)

-the tunner is ok, I use the Leadtek WINFAST PVR program and the quality is very good (and some button from remote works fine :))

    - NO TV OUT !! :!: :naughty:

    S-presso Home Theater Software updates?

    Greetings fellow S-presso owners!

Boy am I glad to have found this forum. I was a little impulsive and bought the S-presso 111 as Overclockers.co.uk had a good deal on it last week - I should have consulted this forum first however as I might have thought twice about buying it! ;)

I am running this little baby with a 3.0GHz Prescott CPU and 1GB RAM and not experiencing any heat or noise issues like the rest of you are, perhaps Asus have done something about this with the later batches they have manufactured?

I have to agree that the TV Tuner in "Instant On" is not great (at least on a UK signal, Pal-I?) as the sound is shocking - Honestly I haven’t managed to download the .iso image update from the Asus website successfully yet so there is hope yet!

*** A question that I have is about this Asus HT software that comes bundled with the unit - are there any updates for this, I am left feeling a little disgruntled if there aren’t any, I mean there are ALWAYS bugs with any software and I get the feeling that there aren’t any for this HT software --> I have stumbled across some issues with Driver updates that render the Radio Tuner inoperable, reverting to the original 2004 Sound/Video Driver fixes this!? ...that is not a good sign of support, I mean I am an avid Asus fan and usually think they make and maintain great products so please Asus don't let us down here!

...also would be great if they could recommend and support a few Asus brand add-on VGA and TV Tuner cards through an updated .iso and BIOS - I am sure this is possible, well anything is possible really...does anyone know if this is happening? IF NOT LETS START A PETITION AND PRESENT IT TO ASUS!!! What do you people think of the notion!?

Thank you for any constructive responses!

    Update to previous post

I managed to download that .iso image for the "Instant On" from Asus yester eve (without it being corrupt for the 3rd attempt!) and recreated the partition with the updated installation - safe to say that the TV sound is fine now so it was obviously a driver/configuration problem in the original release! :thumb:

It would be nice for Asus to include some 16:9 aspects for "Instant On" and the Home Theater Software in Windows as all of my pictures are "Letterboxed" i.e. black frame all the way round as I have a Widescreen LCD - am I missing a setting for this somewhere or am I correct in thinking this is just narrow-sighted of the software engineers who wrote this software (and BIOS screen resolution options i.e. 1280 x 768?)

PS. Regarding the "No TV Out" blasphemy - in my opinion if you have an LCD TV (which most people are or have migrated towards these days) that is TV Out and it is high definition too! :)

    drivers for Infrared?

    Hi,

I have installed GB-PVR on the S-Presso (the Home Theater software is too limited for my liking), when I select MCE remote in GB-PVR however only a couple of buttons work. It seems like I'll have to remap the commands the remote sends, however in the system/devices panel I see no infrared device. I suppose it is one of the HID's present. Does anyone know which DLL/driver to replace in order to use for instance HIP (http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Tips/HipGuide)? It seems that the the included remote control is not fully MCE compatible.

    Thanks!

I've experienced the same failure once, with the same "pull the power plug out" solution. But I have only seen it once, and have the box for like half-year of a daily use.

I think it's not a big problem, cause LCD/Plasma monitors become more and more popular for home theatres (probably the main target of this barebone), and they have standard computer connectors, that give a better quality/resolution over the composite TV out, too

If I'm not mistaking, the remote control receiver translates commands directly into keypresses and passes them to the keyboard port, so you should remap keys to match those of keyboard commands for your media software. Look at the end of your S-presso manual for a list of what keypresses are emulated by pressing remote buttons.

    Broken CD's

    Hi all,

Long time watcher, first time user.

I've had an S-Presso for a year or so now and I have run into a small problem.

I moved house a couple of weeks ago and finally hooked up the S-Presso the other night.

Unfortunatley the HC software in Windows keeps crashing.
Ah I thought, not a problem, I'll just re-install it.
After unpacking the box it was in, both the driver and software CD's were bent in half and after trying to straighten them, they have now snapped.

Have tried contacting ASUS and my dealer for the Windows software, which I am more than willing to purchase again, only to be constantly re-directed to the S-Presso driver page, no HC software here except the Instant-on.
Asus are now ignoring my e-mails!!!

Tried to contact Intervideo who publish the software asking if I buy their official software, if this would work with the remote.
To no avail, they told me it wouldn't and I would have no option but to buy their remote.

Can anyone tell me where I can buy or download the software?
If not, any alternatives that will let me do the job, MCE for example and what hardware to buy?

    Many thanks,

Hi there, I am currently using Win MCE on S-Presso and can confirm, that S-Presso remote controller fully works with MCE. There is no special controller needed. In comparison with Intervideo Home Theater looks MCE much better, fonts are more readable. The only one problem I have - Asus TV/FM card is not working under MCE. Somebody asked "why to use TV/FM card in case you are running standard TV with S-Presso?". Anwer is simple - because of recording programs:idea:

    Zalman fan doesn't fit

I bought my self a ZAlman CNPS 7000-CU CPU cooler. But this coolers manual states that u need a bin around the CPU. Spresso doesn't have this system, because its using a little offstandard solution.

What shall i do here, can i get an old bin from another mainboard and add it ?

  12. Asus PVR-416 TV/FM Card

    Hi,

i'm new here and before i start i want to excuse for any mistakes i make. My english is not that good.

I bought a s-presso 1 week ago and it's going to be shipped within the next 2 weeks. I'm very interested in using the MCE 2005 but i don't want to replace the the card. As far as i know it's a Asus PVR-416 TV/FM Card. So i googled for a while and found a very interesting discussion:

    http://www.thegreenbutton.com/community/shwmessage.aspx?forumid=50&messageid=124464

Can anyone try the driver from HP?? I can't do this at the moment because like i mentioned a few lines above i don't have my s-presso yet.

A few other informations: It's a pity that the s-presso has no tv-out so i need to insert a agp graphic card because i want to use it with a normal tv. Unfortunately Instant On does not work then any more. But i'm planning to buy a lcd tv and then i will maybe remove the agp graka and connect the lcd via vga to get the Instant-On functionality. But that's future stuff and I don't know if the Instant-On functionality is very useful.

A few other questions: Does anyone know if the display can be used under windows with any 3rd party software to display any informations you like? And what about the synchronisation problem when watching DVDs with Instant-ON? Can this problem be solved with the Instant-On update from the Asus support page?

    So long

At one stage I was convinced that the card inside the Spresso was this card. I refused to believe my device manager in windows when I looked at drivers which said "Leadtek Winfast TV2000 Expert XP TV Card". I tried every which way to use the HP drivers, but they don't work with the card, simply because it is the Leadtek Winfast TV2000 Expert XP TV card and not the Asus PVR-416. I think the Winfast TV2000 uses a software decoder and therefore there is no chance that it could ever be compatible with Windows XP MCE, which requires a hardware decoder and bda drivers (whatever they are)...

For those people who continue to be frustrated by the S-presso's illogical lack of a TV-Out, the answer is quite simple and not too expensive.

I use the following TV Converter from Avermedia
http://mediaatlantic.com/product.php?xProd=759 though this one will also do the job...http://www.220technology.com/product_info.php?products_id=143.

With one of these connected to your S-presso and tv, you can run Windows MCE on a tv and use Instant On without making any changes to the configuration. And the S-presso has plenty of USB Ports to power the converter.

As commented previously, the supplied Asus remote is highly compatible with MCE2005, though I don't have an MCE Remote to compare it with.

    Mediaportal

I would suggest that Mediaportal would be a preferable alternative to Intervideo's Home Theatre Software, which, in my view, is cripled by its lack of a free Guide. The problem is getting the TV Card installed in the S-presso to work inside Mediaportal. I've managed it once, although the picture stuttered (although that may have been a problem with my hardware, rather than Mediaportal, as it happens when I try to watch any media using my S-presso), but now cannot manage it anymore. I can't remember the settings. The guide is free and nicely organised, but can be difficult to update (at least in the UK), but the guide is the most important feature of a pvr and I would object having to pay for it, which I seem to recall was the case when I installed the Intervideo software.

So, can anyone help with Mediaportal? Has anyone managed to install it and get it up and running. Does the radio feature work with the S-presso?

  15. Don't understand your statement. You said the TV card is not compatible with xpMCE, so how does MCE work using this converter. I thought it's only for connecting TV with s-presso using the VGA port? And when I change the TV card, Instant On does not work any more, is this correct?

So noone answered my question about using the Front display with Windows yet.

Thanks for the help, but I decided to buy MCE and a new TV card.
Fingers crossed it will go on OK.

Does anyone know if any special or extra drivers are required?

    TV-Out/TV Card

The converter is for getting the S-presso to display on on a TV. It does not affect MCE one way or another. I'm sure that most people know that MCE does work in the S-presso, inspite of MCE's requirement that an AGP Card be present to display MCE. The intel graphics chip can display MCE and this converter can get that display on your TV.

There is no way of getting the Analogue TV tuner Card to work within MCE, however, as it does not have the correct drivers.

    Hope that clarifies the issue.

a good thing: the tuner works very fine with WinFast PVR program from Leadtek (free), the quality is much betther than Asus HomeTheater original application (with the original asus drivers, the leadtek drivers doesn't work). But the remote is not ok, only some buttons works fine (fortunately, the volume control and channel (+/-) are working)...

    Hi mininmanic

I don't believe Instant-On can work with any other card unless Asus decide to update the BIOS and help us all out by re-writing some of the Instant On software to support any new cards - I doubt they will as this is more or less an obsolete model now and R&D is not in their best interests for this :(

Some people are claiming that P7131 is a Hybid card and only works if another MCE analogue card is installed in the system? I am not sure on that one though?
