    Great answer, m00j! :thumb:

The Celeron M is not a bad processor at all. In fact, clock-for-clock, it's still better than the Pentium 4M. Just not as fast as the Pentium M.

It's also not so great on power saving. But like m00j said it, if you are going to use the notebook to run distributed computing projects or play games all the time, then it's not going to matter much.

But if you are looking for maximum battery life while doing light work, i.e. word processing, surfing on the Internet, etc., then you should consider the Pentium M. It can help extend battery life by quite a bit, especially if you are on the go constantly.

The hardest thing I have ever had to do at my work (selling laptops) was explain to an average joe how the Celeron M, being the budget line outperforms the Pentium 4, being the high end line, at the same speed. I eventually did it, but had to bring the Celeron D into the equation (the desktop celeron, a cutdown of the pentium 4) and it caused quite a bit of confusion.

Seems like using this you can get the function keys to work but then the hotkey manager doesnt

Has anyone noticed a buzzing sound from their laptop? Mine was making one from the front left corner. I sent it in to get it fixed and they replaced the motherboard but it was still happening and BenQ are apparently looking into it (they think it was a bad batch of motherboards).

    Anyone else getting it?
Look forward to seeing your replies when I get back from my easter camping vacation.

    Hmm.. Nope, no buzzing sound.

But I'm getting seek noises from the DVD writer everytime I type on the right side of the keyboard. It comes and goes and sometimes, the DVD writer actually pops out!

Good to hear it is not _every_ jb7k that does it. I was a bit worried because I saw this guy in one of my uni lectures with one so I asked him about it and he had it too.

could it be the exhaust fan that is buzzing? The exhaust is located on the top left hand side as well.

I thought it might have been but in my opinion it is distinctly an electrical shorting sound and not a fan noise. Also it is louder at the bottom left corner than at the top left where the fan would be (and the fan exhaust is).

They are going to check the fan as well (they have been closed for easter) so I should find out in a few days.

Does anyone know if the BENQ Joybook 7000 V03 is able to be upgraded to have bluetooth also?

    thanks

Hmm.. As far as I know, you have to ask for the specific Bluetooth model. Not sure if BenQ would bother upgrading it for you.

But I guess it depends on where you are located. If you are in Malaysia, then tough luck. :(

    Battery & AC questions

    Hallo!

I'm probably going to purchase a Benq JB7100, and would like to make you 3 questions about it:

    1. how long does the battery last for you? I know it heavily depends on the use, but... :)
    2. how big & heavy is the AC charger? It is also important when we're talking about a 2kg laptop...
    3. anyone out there using linux on it? How does it perform? :silenced:

    Thanks in advance

    Hello quini,

    1. Like you said it, battery life depends on usage. ;) But if you would still like a rough figure for psychological comfort, I would say it lasts about 2-3 hours max. The battery meter says more than 4 hours though.

    2. Like all AC chargers, it's heavy but it's certainly lighter and smaller than others I've used before. I think we posted a picture of it. In fact, here's a quote from the review :

    3. Nope. Never tried Linux on it. But if you do try it out, do let us know how well it works! :thumb:

It's much easier and probably cheaper to get a USB Bluetooth dongle IMHO... :)

Ok, that gives me an idea. Thanks ;)

I've seen the review, and my actual Acer TM292LMi-M11 brought the same made/model. I find it very small and light enough... at least compared to a friend's Sony Vaio S3HP

I haven't yet decided to purchase it, as I don't like the keyboard distribution at all, but as my main OS is linux, I've found a site about linux on a JB7000:
    http://www.hassel-basketball.de/hd/?page_id=43
Note that this person says its battery lasts 4.5 hours average!! All my laptops run longer under linux than under XP...

    Thanks for your info ;)
