Well, the 1.8 is a lot cheaper and does about the same.

    Well, whether it's 1.4 or 1.8, a 50mm 1.x *IS* definitely going into my arsenal.. when I have $$.

    I wish I could afford 85mm 1.4 though...

I really like the first one....albeit it's a bit soft. Guess u shot it wide open under those lighting conditions....

Yup, shot that wide open (and she was actually spinning and spinning around too)

I had another shot of her under the same lighting, but it is a bit blur, and another of her sharp

The noise level looks under controlled. I guess you kept the ISO down.

    Nope, I actually shot a mix of 400, 800 and 1600.

    Umm... I was using a 20D :)

Had to run about 10-15 pics out of 200 thru Noise Ninja, but otherwise, noise on all other pics were rather acceptable, even at ISO1600

This is where Canon truly excel. You got the wrong camera. 20D, my former dream camera...

    how nice is the camera??

    Wrong.

My dream camera (and soon to be possession) does not do digital :)

In fact, I'm thinking of going back to film. Digital is convenient, but I still prefer doing film anytime. Just got myself 4 rolls again... next thing you know I'll be stocking up my fridge.

1DsMkII? nice, but kinda outta my budget..

No thanks. I'll go back few decades and get a nice old mechanical Pentax or Nikon instead.. :D
