I did it once, with a company called First Data Recovery. Not sure if they are still around...

    It's expensive though.

They are still around. But I might have other contacts. I need to get to office before I can reply.

Thanks guys for the input, have inform him, see how it goes. He is a bit worried about the data he has inside, it's priceless and at the same time very 'private', so he is looking if the service can guarantee non disclosure also. :p

Time to get a NAS to backup my backup.:D :D :D

LOL!!! Home made porn? Can always make more...

Well, non-disclosure is always a problem. Sure, the company may promise you that their staff will not look into the contents, but what's to stop the guy repairing it from copying out some of the stuff? :(

Ultimately, it's best to backup such sensitive material... so you don't have to resort to such drastic and expensive measures.

Well, many companies seek these type of data recovery, and I guess their data is even more confidential.

That's true, but I believe those working with sensitive data would encrypt them and in fact, some would prefer to ensure that their data stays inaccessible than actually retrieving it. That's why there are HDDs with FDE (full disk encryption) so that if a laptop is stolen, then no one can access the data.

In any case, it's always best to back up important data, even if it's nothing personal and only useful to people in your industry. Beats worrying about retrieving it if the HDD dies or the laptop gets stolen.

as far as I know data recovery is like your doctor, the stuff they recover for you doesn't go any father than lab. Their all under a non-disclosure agreement (bonded). Any professional data recovery firm has many decipher utilities and it's all to help people from loosing the data, not to know of its content:roll:
