My old 40GB drive I believe is on its last legs, I plan on buying a new drive to replace it. I would like to transfer the old drive to new drive including the O/S (Windows XP sp3). My question is will DriveImage XML copy the system files / files in use correctly or do I need to seek out a different clone tool? When I clone the old hard drive to the new hard drive do I only need to make the new drive/partition active and place it in the place of the old drive I'm replacing? These are going to be PATA drives. Any other pitfalls I need to be aware of? Thanks in advance I guess this is really more of a general software question than hardware. Could a mod move this to the general software forum?

So 4K sector sizes are the only issue? If that is the case then I'm good as my sector size is only 512 bytes and Acronis True Image is what you guys use, thanks for the info.
Just to follow up, downloaded Acronis True Image but decided to give DriveImage XML a try first, did a raw copy from one drive to my new drive everything worked just fine. It took about an hour for the 40GB transfer.
