I think he's just reminiscing on the good old bad old days of PATA. technot, I know it's not fun, but it'd be a good idea if you make sure both disks are readable and the one you expect is the boot drive. Finding that boot order BIOS option shouldn't be too hard, and while booting Linux and getting around it would take a little more time it may be worth it. Don't get discouraged!
