Finally, a nation has had the guts to criticize Microsoft's ominous Palladium architecture. In a letter to the Bundestag (German Parliament), Germany's Ministry of Economics and Labor warned of the "danger that applications of software for new high-security PCs require a license by Microsoft, resulting in high costs."

The letter also expressed concern about Palladium's potential to create "substantial obstacles to market entry" to competing operating systems, like Linux. It also mentioned a bill introduced by Sen. Fritz Hollings, D-S.C., that would jump-start Palladium by implanting copy-protection technology in PCs and electronic devices.

Frightening stuff, isn't it? Time to write in to your local representative and let him know what you think of Palladium. Maybe mail him a copy of "Enemy Of The State" as well. :)
