Perfect timing as I just set my Ubuntu up on the other machine and actually very happy with it so far. I like the fact that FF is the default browser and Pidjin is also included which I find handy on the second machine.

THX for the post link bookmarked :D

Ubuntu seems the most popular thing for Linux nowadays. I'm planning on trying it out as well during the Summer. Mostly because I read that folding@home in native Linux will yield better points per day versus Windows. Nioce!

I have played with it here and there but this is the first time I have run a Linux only machine. I am enjoying it so far I was getting kinda bored of XP so Vista on one machine and Ubuntu on the other are keeping me busy lol

Ubuntu is my next OS that I'm going to dabble in.
I have a dual boot system now(XP and Vista)so now I'm seriously thinking about testing the waters with Ubuntu.
I'm just hoping that they will all 'get along' being this will be a triple boot system.

Ubuntu isn't all too bad. But after playing around with it for a 1/2 a year, i still can't see it replacing my windows-based desktop. Somehow, the linux apps just isn't there yet.

To be honest I had nothing but partitioning nightmares installing XP and Ubuntu on a dual boot. They use completely different file systems but even using the automated "largest partition" manager for dual boot I came up with 2 corrupt installs before deciding to use that machine Ubuntu only.

So I would suggest a separate drive for Ubuntu as the file systems are different XP and Vista are fine together. It may be the older drive I am using not sure but its apples and oranges and I don't think those 2 file systems should exist on the same HD :hand:

Haha! I remembered just by accessing through the "Hard Disk Manager" in the WinXP with the Ubuntu partition, and checking the properties of that Linux partition, the next thing is, the partition went missing and corrupted. I don't know how to hide the partition! :haha:

Also, I heard that some primitive Windows programs compatibility which is present in Mint LinuxOS. I have seen the video that HL2 even runs on it - but quite jerky because of the lacking of video drivers and poor optimisation.

Anyway, I had troubles installing the programs for Ubuntu because they used those "Repositories" feature, and my MP3 player program won't work because they need the codecs, and downloading the codecs will be quite a hassle. Any ideas of deploying them effectively?
