Now I love rain! All using F2, because there's not much light. Fortunately, the DOF effect is nice to play with!
i've got no flowers here man... sigh... wanted to capture the rain just now but the wind was blowing the rain drops direct to me!!! no lens adapter and UV filter yet... so i dared not risk the shot.
Wow! Those shots are so nice,,, I esp. like the one of the rain drops on leave. What kind of camera do you have Chai? Can't seem to remember...
nice! but can you blurr out the background if shooting a potrait of a person? Prosumer digicams seems hard to do it.
I Googled your camera,,,, For some reason I thought you just had a "point and shoot". Nice camera!!! No wonder pic's are so good.
Huh? Is it easier to do it on SLR? Hmm...I don't normally shoot potrait, but you have to be very close to the human to get the DOF effect. All the pictures below have focusing range of only 5cm on average! But you don't have to get that close of course! Try to get the human further away from the background. That should help. And use the biggest aperture on your camera.
My favorite is the water droplet on the leaf! The shape i sa result of surface tension and gravity. It is called an "Oblate Sphereoid"
I think I can see you in that water droplet LOL If you get an assistant with you, maybe you can start experimenting with black background shots too (get a big black mounting board or something). I've seen tons of outdoor flower shots with black background, I think they look cool. 8) Caution though - black will probably cause the camera to overexpose unless you use the spot meter... check your histogram before you shoot. atwl
DOF is more of a subjective function depending on sensor (size), lens (focal length) and distance to subject. It's true that SLR and medium format have much shallower DOF than prosumer digicams, but one way to achieve more shallow DOF in portraits is maximize your distance to your subject and zoom all the way to the max (use a teleconverter if possible). atwl
