Well, a friend of mine actually ask me to build a pc for her niece. Her budget is around 800 (full set inclusive of monitor and etc..) So i was wondering can anyone here give me a hand on the specifications :D.
Processor:Celeron Dual Core E1200 (was thinking of this)(RM150)
    Mobo:Unsure
    ram:1gb ddr2 667(RM70)
    HDD:WD160 sata hdd (RM134)
so far thats all i can think of..Any ideas?

I believe you could probably make a better specced comp with 800usd including shipping from newegg.. I'm a bit busy atm but I'll attempt to do something to see if I'm right or not by this evening..

however if you're trying to make it as cheap as possible.. those sound pretty nice.. you just have to remember children grow up, and computers do not..

One day they'll want to play hl3 and upgrading a slightly up to date computer is cheaper than buying a new one over a super outdated one.

it's 800MYR (malaysia currency, x3.7 i think to make out the price in USD o_o"):D..For a small kid though..age should b around 8-10 o_o But then..i think it's a small girl so i don't think it requires higher specifications..although stuff can be upgraded later on =D

Woah, thats a little over budget IMO..Lol,I don't really trust small kids with lcd :p Well, it around 245USD for the whole rig. Possible? SO basically, i don't think it requires till E7200 but thanks for the opinion.Hmm, so it's like AMD or intel..

best thing is with built in gpu for now
until he/she decide to upgrade pc and you can put any low/mid range card to work in crossfire because of built in grafics and new ati tech.
i make those kind of pc all the time (not with cross)
people just wanna use it and kids wanna just play a little bit on them
so it is cheap but normal ones

Well, i don't think i'm able to obtain that Asrock mobo..the only 1 that is being sold here (for amd platform) is the same mobo i'm using =.=...And it a lot cheaper..

you could use ECS A780GM-A they seams to work beter than asrock
i know that they have been bad for last few years but they fixed it
or you could use older models of gigabyte and abit

If you want to go cheap, definitely go AMD with their 780G. it comes with a decent IGP, so you won't need to spend any extra on a video card and it will use less power.

I suggest something like a ASUS M3A78-EMH HDMI or Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H. Bundle that up with any AM2 processor you can get your hands on. :)

    some suggestions:

    Estimated prices from Lowyat.

    Celeron E1200 - RM 155
    Gigabyte G31M-S2L - RM 220
    Kingston 1GB - RM 75
    HDD 160GB Sata - RM 145
    Samsung DVDCDRW - RM 65
    Casing - RM 150

    RM 810

    ======================
    AMD LE-1620 - RM 140
    Asus M3A78 EMH HDMI - RM 300
    Kingston 1GB - RM 70
    HDD 160GB Sata - RM 145
    Samsung DVDCDRW - RM 65
    Casing - RM 150

    RM 870

You could shave off RM 100 from the AMD system by going with a NF6100/690G based motherboard.

Looks pretty tight if you intend to also squeeze in a monitor.

Each USD is about RM 3.20 right now. So RM 800 = USD 250. That's also about 130 pounds.

Very tight budget since you also want to include a monitor. Might as well get one of those netbooks or nettops.

You do not necessarily have to go for the ASUS Eee PC. There is a range of new netbooks and nettops (Tech ARP - Computex 2008 - Live From Taipei) like the MSI Wind which should be cheaper than then ASUS Eee PCs.

Well, it's not me that is having that much budget..It's a friend of mine. I actually calculated everything and notice there is only like MYR165 left for monitor..It may be possible to get a 2nd hand crt though..
