According to the local distributor, Edaran Tan Chong Motor, the recall doesn't affect the local models, not even the Nissan Latio (Tiida). Only some of the fully-imported Nissan March are affected :
AFAIK, most Malaysian cars will never be affected by any recalls, not because we have better quality cars, but because most manufacturers use parts based on older (but in a way, proven) technology to save costs...
Building locally isn't the problem per se. Look at the local BMWs - still very well made. IMHO, it's when they slack on QC and build quality on locally assembled cars. That's when all the trouble starts.
