This is a real bonus indeed. I thought I will have 4200rpm with 2MB like BenQ 7000. So, Dell is not that bad after all. Well, this is notebook buying fiasco. I dunno about Notebook Service Fiasco. Maybe someone want to crash the BenQ notebook Windows XP and then test how the BenQ service looks like.
don't even get me started with laptop service fiasco. I had many terrible experience with my Toshiba laptop, had to service it many times and they still didn't fix the problem fully.
Really? I only had one issue with the M30 and it was resolved by the distributor - Teledynamics. Of course, they did take a rather long time to do it.
First of all, let me say thx to Ken and Adrian for this article. I think for a long time PC manufacturers ignored the Malaysian market, especially notebook buyers. Teledynamics, NEC, Acer and Compaq have notorious reputation for aftersale service. Dell probably have the best service here. Compaq Malaysia (HP) dont even have readily available batteries should you want to buy. Let's not even talk about the outrageous price of the battery they quoted me. I am not talking about dated machines. So please check all these before you buy. Maybe it it will better to buy the notebooks from the US market as local support is not a factor for consideration. Falcon Northwest and Voodoo PC sell some nice notebooks. Adrian is right. The attitude of vendors here are extremely bad. The only good after sale service I have encountered are with Dell and PalmOne. Sure one rotten apple dont make all of them bad but look at the basket again. The last I saw, only 2 good apple in the whole basket.
First of all, welcome to our forums gman, it's a pleasure having you here and participate in our forums. While I don't know about the others, I actually had good service from HP the last time, both for servicing my HP Jornada and my HP Printers. I'm not sure about Compaq though and now that Compaq is merged into HP.
Yeah, the CD/DVD combo drive had a connector problem. You were there with me, remember? For the benefit of other people reading this post, they didn't have any stock of the combo drive so they couldn't replace it for me. Hmm.. In fact, I don't think they even bothered to stock up on spares. Anyway, they took about 3 weeks to have the replacement drive delivered to me. The upside was they sent it directly to me. Otherwise, I would have to make the trip to their service center in Shah Alam again...
Maybe it is because that this problem was not a common problem Who wants to stock up parts that are low on demand
Well, as a mechanical part, you can be sure there will be some dead drives. If I'm not mistaken, they had to order the replacement drive from overseas... That's why it took so long. And as usual, I did all the chasing. Did not receive any updates, whatsoever.
Well, I guess I can add two more brands that I wouldn't recommend in Malaysia... I feel you guys man...
well, my toshiba laptop has gotten weird problem. Like couple of month after I got it, the dvd/cdrw will eject automatically for no apparent reason. At first I called them, they kept saying it's not mechanical problem, it's the software. AFter a long time on the phone talking, they finally agree to fix it. I send the machine to Toshiba to repair. They said they replace the card. However, after I got the machine back (which took like 1 week or so), couple of weeks later, the same problem occurred. I called them again, this time, they claim that it's my burning software is at fault. They said the machine will only work with their software (what a weird excuse). The I told them, in my machine, I don't have their burning software. I told them to give me the software because the computer CD that comes with the laptop does not have the burning software that was installed in my machine. They refuse to send it unless I paid for it. The I told them, I really don't care about the software because I really don't like their software that's included in the machine. but if you claim that the eject problem will be fixed is via the software only then there's nothing I can do except getting the software. I refuse to pay for something that I don't like to use while I can spend money on the software I want but since you claim this is the only solution, you should provide me with the software. After like long fight with the customer rep and the manager, they finally agree to ship the software for free. And you know what, the problem still there, it still eject (like I thought so, I really don't think the burning software can cause such problem). After such big fight with them, I was so angry and hate to contact them. Couple of month later (the drive is still acting up), I took the machine to a local repair that repair the machine (Toshiba's local repair). The weirdest thing is when I took the machine in, the problem went away. The drive does not acted up. The repair shop says that they can't repair it because they don't see the problem. So I took the machine back. And then it's working okay but the cd still eject from time to time. Then, couple of month later, it started to act funny. When I plug my usb mouse into the machine, it will totally shut down the machine. I can't use it until I totally discharge the machine (via remove the battery). The I can use it. This time, I again, took it to a local service guy for repair. He agree to replace the mobo. It again took about a week or more. After the repair, the machine will occassionally eject the Cd but I thought, I will live with it. The warranty has expired. I thought instead of buying extended warranty, I just gonna buy a new machine and next time, no Toshiba. Although I have to say, despite my bad experience, toshiba's service is good that you can take your machine to their local store and they will fix it (no charge at all) or ship it to them for fix. What I don't like is that the machine keeps breaking even after it's repaired.
how sure are you that they were repaired? it could be just some aimless tinkering by their people. i thought it should be as easy as swapping for a new drive, since the drive is the one ejecting itself then why didn't they just swap the drive? don't they have old units with functional drives which they can swap with?
i feel sorry for yall. my mom bought a laptop, and service was excellent. they replied within a day or so. yeah...the screen was crushed be something. they were really helpful
you are in US where consumer rights are very strong if they dont provide good service support.. you know what happens
yeah, complain to the better business bureau, and they get a lower rep. maybe next time you see those two service reps, kick them in the head or something
I am in the US, but I still feel so angry and frustated after my huge fiasco with toshiba. I even wrote a letter to them but didn't hear anything back.
hmmm....wait for episode 3? LOL nah... it's got nothing to do with it. yeah, indeed we got it. but it's turns out to be a discontinued model... no wonder he would give it free to us... LMAO
