Hi, I have to buy one nVidia card, but which one among 9500 GT, 9600 GT and GTS 250 can be softmodded?
I wish there were benchmarks of the real deal of some of the cards being soft modded to! It would help me out a ton.
Here is my benchmarking for my system: Processors Intel Core 2 Duo e7200 (2.53 ghz) Motherboard ASUS P5GC-MX/1333 Memory 2x 1gig of DDR2 PC5300 Apacer Graphics Card BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC2 Graphics Drivers GeForce Driver 190.62 Quadro Driver 190.38 BEFORE MOD_SPECVIEWPERF10.0 1280x1024 3dsmax-04 9.34 catia-02 8.32 ensight-03 16.43 maya-02 29.92 proe-04 11.98 sw-01 8.22 tcvis-01 4.01 ugnx-01 5.27 AFTER MOD_SPECVIEWPERF10.0 1280x1024 3dsmax-04 16.13 catia-02 15.38 ensight-03 19.46 maya-02 30.13 proe-04 13.16 sw-01 23.43 tcvis-01 6.62 ugnx-01 5.27 AFTER MOD_SPEC10.0_Vsync Forced OFF 1280x1024 3dsmax-04 14.94 catia-02 15.52 ensight-03 21.58 maya-02 32.78 proe-04 13.11 sw-01 25.78 tcvis-01 6.77 ugnx-01 5.66 Can't install performance drivers though which sucks, but can anyone tell me how well my performance upgrade is? It seems relative to most people with specviewperf10.0 that this seems to match the trend. I hope this thread isn't dead lol.
Are there any side by side benchmarks of a geforce softmodded to quadro and a real quadro card? (My previous question was phrased poorly)
Just did a benchmark today of a Quadro FX1700 512mb on my system, will post benches later tonight. Well heres the thing, you gotta think about it in price. The 8800 GTX oc2 I bought was for 150$. New, it would be 800$ at the time. The equivalent card, being the 4600 quadro, would probably have been around 3,000$ new, now it sells for about half that (1,500$). I'm playing around with the quadro 1700 which is the 8800, so its within the same range or so I take it from the specs from tomshardware.com/reviews/quadro-fx-4800,2258.html. the 1700 is about 400$ from supplier which I could get, and 600$ retail right now. At about half the quality of the 600$, for which I got was 150$. It ain't too bad. But I would love to use the performance drivers. But for 3Ds max and photoshop CS4, this might just be enough for the time being.
NVIDIA GeForce To Quadro Soft-Mod Guide Rev. 4.1 The NVIDIA Quadro family of professional graphics cards are very, very expensive. But everyone knows that Quadro and GeForce graphics cards are virtually identical in hardware. Obviously, you cannot just use Quadro drivers with your GeForce graphics cards. However, there is an easy way to soft-mod (modify in software) an NVIDIA GeForce desktop graphics card into an NVIDIA Quadro professional graphics card. We will show you just how to do it in this guide. Not only that, we have also a new page with performance results from the soft-modding of an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX to the Quadro FX 4600 and a comparison of that soft-modded card with a true NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700. Read on and find out! Link : NVIDIA GeForce To Quadro Soft-Mod Guide Rev. 4.1
Ditto. I'm planning to get a GTX 260 or a GTX 285 rather than a 8800 GTS. Can anyone verify if they can be modded to a FX 4800 or a FX 5800 (according to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia_Quadro#PCI_Express that's their equivalents)?
This is obviously a little late but since no one has posted any feedback, here's mine: No. I can't. I just installed a new PNY GTX 260 (192SP/65nm), installed Foreceware 191.70, and everything checked out with GPU-Z. Went ahead and installed RivaTuner 2.24c, which recognizes the 260 as it should, but when I hit Low Level System Settings there's no NVStrap tab whatsoever, so it's not even possible. I'm actually bummed. I just got this card - admittely it was a gamble - to replace my 8800 GTX I had modded as an FX 4600, that just died on me. Now I'm stuck with a 260, a gaming card, and I don't even really game all that much anymore. No more OpenGL in Max, no more wireframe anti-aliasing. Damn shame. Would've gotten another 8800 GTX but they're impossible to find new or even refurbished, and considering mine was brand new and only lasted two years, used sure wasn't option. So, yah, kids, your mileage may vary, who knows. Guess I'll have to save up for a 'cheap' Quadro, like an FX 1700 or 3700 and slap in an available slot.
So you are running XP? I am guessing the newer the card, the harder it is to mod. It all depends on drivers and RivaTuner I think.
Oh, cripes! I should've mentioned which OS. I'm running Vista SP1 64-bit. Attached a GPU-Z screenshot.
