    Hmm.. Why are they illegal?

If I remember correctly, it's legal to record and share videos recorded from the TV and such, as long as it's an imperfect copy (e.g. analog copy).

Plus our govroment is going broke, so they want their share of the "loot" as well from the taxes one would have to pay to buy the shows.

Not if you distribute/share it... we have DVRs here (like TiVo) but you can't distribute it - even then the MPAA and all the other shitheads gave em hell over it.

I think that only applies to DVRs because they produce effectively perfect copies of the broadcast. I remember that the courts ruled that it was alright for someone to record shows off TV (analog) or songs off terrestial radio and share them with other people.

Recording and distributing is very different. In fact, if a neighbor tapped into my sattelite TV feed, that is already considered piracy. Two seperate concepts. Recording is done for personal archives. That is fine (just like phase shifting for music - again for personal use). Once distribution comes in, that is clear cut piracy. That's why some musicians clamp down on bootleg recordings that are sometimes sold/distributed (though some tolerate it).

Hmm... I see what you mean. You are probably right in that sense. But how does it apply to web broadcasts? Are these online TV streams legit?

If they do not have any permission, then they are illegal.

Just look at youtube for F1 related videos, they are removed due to infringing rights.

    2-4 Mbps? :(

I must get Unifi before I can watch these... I max out at 1.5 Mbps, and that's only for certain downloads. I usually get just 700-800 kbps. :(
