What's the difference between a 945G based mobo and a P965 based mobo?
I'm planning to build a system with the following spec:

    - Core2Duo E6400
    - Radeon x1950pro
    - 512MB DDR2 667 (x2)
    - Sata2 160MB HDD
    - SB Audigy Value

Which chipset should I get? P965 or 945G?
I'm using it for gaming, not using CrossFire.

    P965 is newer and supports DDR2 800

P965 is a great overclocking chipset, cheaper than the high end 975X.

The P965 chipset was made with the core2 duo processor in mind, while the 945g is a p4 compatable chipset that has been ported to support C2D processors.

Definitey go for a motherboard that has the P965 chipset.

But 975X was designed for P4 as well, but it's still hailed as the overclocking king.

I say go for the 965, as it is newer and much better for overclocking...and if you can afford it...buy a new 975 Ver. 2 Motherboard, as it supports Core 2 Duo CPUs already...

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents advice, GOOD LUCK!!! ;)

whats your budget? 945 is still a good chipset. the MSI 945P neo3 is a very, very solid board if you are on a tight budget
965 supports ddr800, but DDR800 speed doesn't make that big difference in performance..

975x? whats the point if you are not into overclocking? 975x board is expensive!

Yeah...975x is pretty expensive...that's why I advised him to buy it, only if he can afford the xtra money. But still, if he's not going to overclock, I would still go for the 965.

    But hey, that's just me...;)

At the time the Cores are out, which chipset are already released and provided support for these? 945 or 965 first? :D

Officially the 965 was made for the Core2DUo CPUs I think.

975 with the revised voltage regulation, followed by 965, and then 945.

    My budget is around RM380 (US$ 100).
BTW, what chipset is the best for E6400 and within my budget? nVidia, Ati, intel?

Intel. The 965 is very sufficient already. Or you can try the 945. Both of them will work.

Honestly nVidia chipset for Intel boards are very expensive. You might want to try the plain Intel boards for the best bang of the buck. :D

i just bought a 945G series mobo, does it means it is wasting money to buy a ddr2800 RAM?

well, it depends on the BIOS of the board if it allows you to overclock the FSB or not or if it has the dividers to allows you to use 800MHz RAM.

What the 965 has is an official support for the ram. that's all.

whether the DDR2 800 is a waste depends on your system setup, rather than just mobo alone.
