    i just picked up a cpu on ebay, a P4 2.53 @ 3.2 right now in my abit bd7II.

    Right now its 53c
case is 50c (hot in socal).

    Should I downclock it?

    Edit -
backed down to 3.1, did some burning time.
temp at idle is like mid 40s now. but then again, I got teh AC on...

    gosh I hate socal heat!!!!

what do u guys use to get this temps? speedfan's interface is complicating coz they juz name the temps, temp1, temp2 etc...and the only other way to check CPU temp is in the BIOs, can anyone reidrect me to another GUI interface that gives temps?

U guys do realise that posting your temps mean absolutely nothing at all right ?

Each board has their own thermal sensor calibrated in their own way. Abit uses a formula based off running voltage. ASUS supposedly reads the onboard die.

Yet using the same CPU and changing to different boards in a semi-controlled environment, u can witness temperature swings of up to 15degC from board to board.

Only way to have any reasonable accurate temperatures is a way I discussed with Chai sometime ago. Drill a small hole through the IHS of the P4 and insert a calibrated temp probe right up against the core in there.
