Please help.. cannot change desktop background

    i have a problem on my friends computer.. he had a Crapload of spyware problems and i removed it.. one of it was spyware sheriff which displays a warning that ure comp is infected as a desktop background....i fixed everything with hijack this noadware ans MS anti spyware.... except for the desktop background... i cant change it at all.. how am i going to fix this!?

    any help is greatly appreciated...

    You can change the wallpaper but it won't update?
    Or you can not access background settings at all?

    probably running active desktop... hmm there's a thread here started by jet about his desktop icon problem.. should be the same method to solve this problem.

    no it isnt running on active desktop .. if it was something that simple i wouldnt have needed to go to a forum would I!?

    I'm on Display properties and it just wont let me change wallpaper at all.. very strange

    Registry playin' .. goto ->

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ System

    and check two things:

    • NoDispBackgroundPage should be set to 1
    • if there's an empty value named "wallpaper", delete it.
