CPU Disconnect - couldn't find this in the guide. Anyone know what it does?

A8V (VIA K8T800Pro)

Adrian's Rojak Pot BOG is by far the best resource I've found on the Internet regarding BIOS options. The subscription is totally worth it!

Here’s a list of BIOS options for the Asus A8V motherboard (VIA K8T800Pro chipset) that I couldn’t find a reference to in the BOG. I apologize if any of these are listed there already under a different name; I tried to screen for that as much as possible, while looking like I’m working at my day job.

BIOS Option : Node Interleaving
Options : Auto, Enabled, Disabled
Description : Sets whether to allow memory accesses to be spread out over BANKS on the same node or across nodes, decreasing access contention.

BIOS Option : TRFC
Options : Auto, 9-15 CLK (increments of 1)
Description : Sets the TRFC.

Options : Auto, 1-6 CLK (increments of 1)

This last one seems straighforward enough, but I was wondering what the recommendation would be for it:

Here's one I don't know and can't find.

Description : "The choice is enable or disable". Really, you don't say!

I believe this will display a message if not using an ATA-133 compatible IDE cable, but not sure. As you see, the desc. in the manual is of no use.

 

AGP Performance Control is another name for AGP Wait States. Disabled=2T, Enabled=1T.

 

Help with Asus P5GDC-V Delux AMI Bios

Some of these may not be new but I'm interested in optimizing these bios settings manaully. Anyone know what are optimal settings?

Description : I have no idea.

Description : I think it has to do with how the system will react when it reaches its maximum temprature. It is a AMD XP feature.

Description : I have no idea.

First off, forgive me if this isn't the appropiate place to post.

BIOS Option : PCI Delayed Transaction/PCI 2.1 Compliance
Options : Enabled, Disabled
Description : This enables PCI delayed transactions and it is already covered in BOG.

I just wanted to add that enabling it can make some cards (some Creative models for instance) to output crackling or poor sound. If you are having any odd problems with your sound card and you have this option enabled, try disabling it. If you have just a few pci cards (or none), the performance gain is minimal, anyway (i think it is because there are fewer PCI arbitrations).

 

Adrian, I know, I know but thanks for refreshing my memory. I have this option enabled in my bios. My ASUS A7V333 has a built-in (integrated) CMI8738/C3DX audio chipset. Seems to be unaffected by delayed pci transaction. That's why i have left it enabled. Cool.

 

This feature seems to be related to the S2K Bus Disconnect technology. The CPU will be "shut down" if it is idleing. It will take less power and it will also be generated less heat. I have testet this function now, and it works great. Idle temp is down to 29 degrees C from 39 degrees C. I have a AMD XP 2600+ CPU.

Search for MDA Resources

Theres some bits about this in odd places - people seems to think this is Monochrome Display Adaptor, to tell the AGP bridge whether to search on the PCI/(ISA if present) bus to see if it needs to map the memory space of a possible monochrome secondary display adaptor.
Seems an odd BIOS option to add to imo though...
