    CPU Disconnect

CPU Disconnect - couldn't find this in the guide. Anyone know what it does?

    Cheers

I presume it's from Abit's NF7? It's for Idling your CPU when it's not used, hence reducing temperature. If you want in detail, please post in complete format. Thanks.

Cannot find these three settings in the BOG, so i post it here

BIOS Option : Row Precharge Time
    Options : 2T, 3T
Description : This item controls the number of cycles for Ros Address Strobe (RAS) to be allowed to precharge. If insufficient time is allowed for the RAS to accumulate it's charge before DRAM refresh, refresh may be incomplete and DRAM may fail to retain data. This item applies only when synchronous DRAM is installed in the system.
    Motherboard : MSI KT4V
    Chipset : VIA KT400

BIOS Option : RAS Pulse Width
    Options : 6T, 5T
Description : This setting allows you to select the number of clock cycles allotted for the RAS pulse width, according to DRAM specifications.
    Motherboard : MSI KT4V
    Chipset : VIA KT400

BIOS Option : RAS to CAS delay
    Options : 3T, 2T
Description : When DRAM is refreshed, both rows and columns are addressed separately. This setup item allows you to determine the timing of the transition from RAS to CAS.
    Motherboard : MSI KT4V
    Chipset : VIA KT400

    Motherboard : MSI KT4V
    Chipset : VIA KT400

    BIOS Option : Fast Command
    Options : Ultra, Fast, Normal
Description : This item controls the internal timing of the CPU
    Motherboard : MSI KT4V
    Chipset : VIA KT400

BIOS Option : Fast R-2-R Turnaround
    Options : Disabled, Enabled
Description : Burst read operation can be interupted by new read of any bank. Random column access is allowed. READ to READ interval is minimum 1 CLK.
    Motherboard : MSI KT4V
    Chipset : VIA KT400

    BIOS Option: AGP Read Synchronization
    Options: Enable or Disable
Description: The field allows you to enable or disable the AGP Read Synchronization feature. Settings: Enabled, Disabled
    Motherboard: MSI KT3 Ultra2-R
    Chipset: VIA KT333
    BIOS Manufacturer: AMI Version 5.7

Have searched the internet high and low, and have not found a definition of what exactly this does, my guess is it has something to do with synchronizing the AGP bus with something else, but besides that, I know squat? HELP PLS! Thanks

    A8V (VIA K8T800Pro)

Adrian's Rojak Pot BOG is by far the best resource I've found on the Internet regarding BIOS options. The subscription is totally worth it! :thumb:

Here’s a list of BIOS options for the Asus A8V motherboard (VIA K8T800Pro chipset) that I couldn’t find a reference to in the BOG. I apologize if any of these are listed there already under a different name; I tried to screen for that as much as possible, while looking like I’m working at my day job.

    BIOS Option : Node Interleaving
    Options : Auto, Enabled, Disabled
Description : Sets whether to allow memory accesses to be spread out over BANKS on the same node or across nodes, decreasing access contention.

    BIOS Option : TRFC
Options : Auto, 9-15 CLK (increments of 1)
    Description : Sets the TRFC.

    BIOS Option : TRWT
Options : Auto, 1-6 CLK (increments of 1)
    Description : Sets the TRWT.

    BIOS Option : TWCL
Options : Auto, 1-2 CLK (increments of 1)
    Description : Sets the TWCL.

    BIOS Option : Asynclat
Options : Auto, 4-9 CLK (increments of 1)
    Description : Sets the Asynclat.

BIOS Option : Read Preamble Setting
Options : Auto, 2.0-9.0 ns (increments of 0.5)
Description : Sets the Read Preamble in nano seconds.

BIOS Option : Search for MDA Resources
    Options : Yes, No
Description : Sets whether to allow search for MDA Resources

BIOS Option : ACPI 2.0 Support
    Options : Yes, No
Description : Allows you to add more tables for ACPI 2.0 specifications.

This last one seems straighforward enough, but I was wondering what the recommendation would be for it:

BIOS Option : Legacy USB Support
    Options : Disabled, Enabled, Auto
Description : Allows you to enable or disable support for legacy USB devices. Setting to Auto allows the system to detect the presence of USB devices at startup. If detected, the USB controller legacy mode is enabled. If no USB device is detected, the legacy USB support is disabled.

    Here's one I don't know and can't find.

BIOS Option : ATA 66/100 CABLE MESSAGE
    Options : Enabled, Disabled
Description : "The choice is enable or disable". Really, you don't say!
    Motherboard : Shuttle AK32V / AK32VN
    Chipset : VIA KT266A

I believe this will display a message if not using an ATA-133 compatible IDE cable, but not sure. As you see, the desc. in the manual is of no use.

    Hi, everyone!

First off, forgive me if this isn't the appropiate place to post.

    Motherboard : Many
    Chipset : Many?

BIOS Option : PCI Delayed Transaction/PCI 2.1 Compliance
    Options : Enabled, Disabled
Description : This enables PCI delayed transactions and it is already covered in BOG.

I just wanted to add that enabling it can make some cards (some Creative models for instance) to output crackling or poor sound. If you are having any odd problems with your sound card and you have this option enabled, try disabling it. If you have just a few pci cards (or none), the performance gain is minimal, anyway (i think it is because there are fewer PCI arbitrations).

Many thanks, everyone for posting here. As always, I will be researching them and will add to the guide ASAP.

ja08, most of the BIOS functions you posted have already been covered in the guide.

eLPuSHeR, don't forget there are other PCI devices to consider like the PCI-to-ISA bridge, PCI-to-AGP bridge, etc.

So, don't assume that just because you don't use any PCI add-on cards that PCI Delayed Transaction will not have any effect on your system.

Adrian, I know, I know but thanks for refreshing my memory. I have this option enabled in my bios. My ASUS A7V333 has a built-in (integrated) CMI8738/C3DX audio chipset. Seems to be unaffected by delayed pci transaction. That's why i have left it enabled. Cool.

This feature seems to be related to the S2K Bus Disconnect technology. The CPU will be "shut down" if it is idleing. It will take less power and it will also be generated less heat. I have testet this function now, and it works great. Idle temp is down to 29 degrees C from 39 degrees C. I have a AMD XP 2600+ CPU.

  18. BIOS Option: REF to ACT/REF to REF (Trcfc)
    Options: 12T, 13T, 14T, 15T
Description: Allows you to set the REF to ACT/REF to REF timing
    Motherboard: Asus A7V880
    Chipset: Via KT880

    Search for MDA Resources

Theres some bits about this in odd places - people seems to think this is Monochrome Display Adaptor, to tell the AGP bridge whether to search on the PCI/(ISA if present) bus to see if it needs to map the memory space of a possible monochrome secondary display adaptor.
Seems an odd BIOS option to add to imo though...

    ACPI 2.0 Support

Seems odd that this is disabled by default on the A8V
