well, I save my installation programs and also for security reason so virus don't affect the .exe, if we password-protect it.
Usually compressing .EXE's don't make it any smaller though, seeing as the installer already compressed it.
Since there is already a compressed music format (mp3) above, it is not surprising exe file will be mentioned althought compressing them will not result in much difference.
I have selected the file types I usually compress which are mainly music files (surprise lol !!). Also Word text files and graphics for artwork I do in PS, lyrics, and text and pics for articles
Hmmm perhaps another idea for an article... Compare actually compressing files vs compressed disk.. LOL I don't really compress files nowadays for archiving purposes. The only reason I compress files is to keep them small to be sent over emails. so mostly documents of powerpoint slides. Some PDF here and there. As for my archival, I usually just archive it with the fastest settings JUST to keep a bunch of files into a single file. that's it
I compress anything that's not already compressed that I don't use often or plan to archive as I don't want to use more space than I have too, that and no DVD burner makes archiving more difficult.
Compressed disk? That would have to be a separate article altogether. Both archival compression and compressed disk have different functions though. Files in compressed archives are not meant to be accessible directly but files in compressed disks are meant to be accessed directly. So compressed disks will definitely use poorer but faster compression algorithms.
