Here's a quick poll for you guys.

If you are to setup a budget SLI system, what's the most you would pay for it?

The system specifications can be anything you like. Only that this should be an SLI-based system.

It would be cool if you could also list down the specifications of your dream budget SLI system. Hehe... :thumb:

This is a trick question , right?
If I was to pick graphics on a (somewhat) tight budget I'd stay away from SLI.
The only exception is if there's allready a fairly new SLI capable graphics card available. Then I might consider getting another of the same type.

Nope... Hypothetically, if you want a low-to-midrange SLI system, what's the price that you would pay for one?

Let's say if it's based on the GeForce 7600 GT SLI.

Two of those cards are the same price as one 7900 GTX, especially if you add the extra cost of SLI-capable motherboard, which should provide better performance anytime, so that's my pick!

If we up the budget a leap, then a setup with two 7950GT SLI will provide better value for money than a single 7950GX2 that's marginally more expensive.
That's my "budget" SLI. Any less money available and I'd go for a single card!

Oh, coming to think of it there's another option as well:
Some friend might want me to "pimp" his rig. The only performance requirement is to have a fully functioning computer, otherwise it's all about getting most Bling-Bling out of the money. Then I'd pick two 7300GT with the best looks available!

Yup.. There's no way to really build a budget PC around the GeForce 7600 GT. What I really mean is an affordable one.

What would you consider as affordable for a GeForce 7600 GT SLI system?

Please define what should be part of the "system".
Mobo, RAM, CPU, PSU, HDD, DVD-burner, case, monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard, floppy drive, ...?

Oh, and what's the future buget for upgrades? I could go pretty low initially, with planned upgrades fairly soon after.

Okay, here's a "cheapish" rig, complete (excluding software), picking all components from one store:

Motherboard: Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe nForce 570 SLI MCP 4DDR2-DIMM 3PCI 4PCIe SATA Raid Audio DUAL GB-LAN Firewire Socket AM2 ATX
CPU (with box cooler): AMD Athlon64 "Orleans" 3800+ 2.4GHz 512Kb Boxed (with cpu-cooler!) Socket AM2 (to be upgraded to Athlon64X2 4600+ or better later on.)
Case & PSU: Black Thunder Miditower Black 400W ATX
    RAM: Kingston KVR667D2N5/512 2x512MB (tot 1GB) DDR2 PC5300 240pin 667MHz
    HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 0A31637 T7K250 160Gb 7200rpm 8Mb 8.5ms SATA2
Floppy drive: Sony, black (119 SEK)
    DVD-burner: Samsung SH-W163A, black
Graphics cards: 2x Leadtek WinFast GeForce 7600GT
Keyboard: Simple standard, black, 49 SEK
Mouse: Razer Diamondback Precision Gaming Mouse Salamander Red
    Speakers: Creative Speaker SBS380 2.1
    Monitor: AMW M179D 17" TFT Silver/Svart Analog&DVI 8ms

Total price: 11,138 SEK (including 25% sales tax), which should boil down to roughly equivalent with 4,000 RM sales price in Malaysia.

It should be a complete system. :D

    I was thinking of around USD 1.2K (~RM 4440).

Wow.. That's still pretty cheap. Cheaper than what I could find on Pricegrabber...

    It should include everything.

Then I think the poll options are somewhat skewed, especially if using double GF 7600GT is mandatory and should be included in that price.
The lowest bid should read <4,000 RM, because it's difficult to get much lower, and then you up from that.

Yeah, it's damn hard to get below RM 4K (USD 1081). :wall: :wall:

Especially hard if Conroe is part of the package. :wall:
