Picked up this game recently and it's damn good! For those who've played Sid Meier's Pirates in the DOS days, this game is a MUST! Not as good as Pirates (cause Port Royale also focuses on trading - think New Horizons in the Caribbean) but it's the best pirate game I've ever played since the classic Pirates... There's a new game from the same company too... It's called Tortuga: Pirate Hunter. Uses same engine as Port Royale but focuses more on the piracy part... I'm gonna get that one after I'm done with Port Royale!

No, the game is not like Civilization at all. It's more like an RPG... Can't really explain how the game works... If you've played Pirates!, or New Horizons, or maybe High Seas Trader, then you get the idea. Something like Freelancer, but not as much action and definitely not in 1st or 3rd person perspective.
