Um, i had 4 different rams before, and 5 now[DDR RAM] (1 4-chip, 2 8-chip, and 2 16-chip). For some reason, my motherboard wont wanna detect the rams TOGETHER its like TRY 1 [Slot 1=empty] [Slot 2=256] Result = runs fine TRY 2 [Slot 1=256] [Slot 2=empty] Result = runs fine TRY 3 [Slot 1=256] [Slot 2=512] Result = some error in startup with the Ram speed/unable to detect ONE of the RAMS TRY 4 [Slot 1=512] [Slot 2=256] Result = some error in startup with the Ram speed/unable to detect ONE of the RAMS I cant seem to get it to 768 >.> Help please?
Err.. You might want to furnish us with details about your system. Like what motherboard are you using? What processor? Also, what BIOS settings did you use?
Alright....*sigh* this is where it gets all technical-ish Motherboard : Intel D845GVS1 Processor : Intel Pentium 4 2.40 GHz OS : Windows XP Professional SP 2 Sys Manufacturer : Intel OC : None PageFile : 1792Mb BIOS Date : 02/16/04 Ver: 08.00.08 Current RAMS : DDR 256MB 3200(Kingston,APACER), DDR 512MB 400MHz(PQI) Current GFX card : PCI ATI Radeon Mobility 64MB(No Pci-E slot and AGP slot) Bios settings : Default(floppy disabled, onboard sound disabled, onboard gfx disabled) CD-ROM drive : BenQ combo DVD/CDRW Hard Drives : Maxtor (X2) 40GB(80GB)4 partitions(20GB each) Enough info? or is there something i missed?
i'd say my advice would be either buy a 1gb ram or use an SDRAM with DD. it works fine for my computer if the SDRAM dosn't work then buy a 1GB. by the way isn't 512bytes of ram enough for u???
did u i see than why not get a dual core???? u could try celeron D or Athlon64 x2 dual core!!!! anyways there is a better idea if u have a harddrive with a lot of GB then u can use ur harddrive as a virtual memory back up!!! that way when ur ram stops responding ur harddrive kicks in :
k k. let's stick to RAM issues before we go on upgrading. LunatikBunnie, how about getting another 512mb and see how it goes. borrow from a friend or something. heck if you're staying nearby i don't mind helping you out. you mentioned now which of the 256 were you using when the SYSTEM was unable to detect it?
Hmm.... I put them together and they say something at the bootup. Something about speed issues, prompting me to press f2 to continue. and when i do, it just reads the 256, not the 512. I stay in Cheras,Maluri.. I set 1.5GB of space as RAM already, it doesnt help much
I guess it has got something to do with memory incompatibility. Of course it won't help. Virtual memory is far too slow.
