I Know This Much Is True - Wally Lamb The Five People You Meet In Heaven - Mitch Albom Tuesdays With Morrie - Mitch Albom My perspective on life changed after reading these books... superb!
For Mitch Albom, I prefer Tuesdays with Morrie. Adrian, if you like naval fiction, there's Horatio Hornblower by C.S. Forrester. For the sci-fi equivalent, there's David Weber's Honor Harrington books. Did you like Master and Commander (the movie)? It's based on a book too.
Read "What Matters Most: The Power of Living Your Values" by Hyrum W. Smith. I bet you your outlook in life will change even more. http://www.coachingcircles.com/Books/What_Matters_Most_b.html As for Five People in Heaven and Tuesdays with Morrie, I too prefer Tuesdays.
Actually, Blitzkrieg is factual in nature. It's the author's take on how the Germans developed Blitzkrieg and used it to trash the Allies and force France to surrender in 7 weeks. Yup, try searching Google for "French victories". Incidentally, Len Deighton also wrote a factual account of the Battle Of Britain (which I also have) and many spy fictions. Hmm.. When it comes to fiction, darn, never read any of those books. I just read a few Larry Bond books. His military fictions are really good. Much better than Tom Clancy, whose writing ability I feel has suffered greatly these days.
I've no idea how this post has got to do with Leian's reply Anyways...darn, how do you find so much time reading so many books???!!! Ok, for you guys who loves photoshop..here's a recommended book from me. "Photoshop LAB Color: The Canyon Conundrum and Other Adventures in the Most Powerful Colorspace" by Dan Margulis
Err.. I thought she was referring to my last post which was about the book Blitzkrieg? Many books? Eh, you guys seem to be reading a LOT more than me!!
I dun think so.. haha I just mentioned the other day that you like a lot of naval/war stories... and we happen to saw a DVD of that Horatio Hornblower story.. So i guess she posted based on that.. But then, maybe I could be wrong
Eh, nope, not referring to Blitzkrieg at all. Peaz is right. I saw the Horatio Hornblower DVD and squeaked. I have one three-in-one of his books, but I was led to them by Harrington books (marvelous space naval opera!) Hope that cleared things up.
Hallmark made movies out of both books. But I agree with the rest, Tuesdays With Morrie is nicer and more interesting than The Five People You Meet In Heaven.
Dang.. I never saw those movies or books. I used to buy books from a used-bookstore here in Melaka but they renovated the shopping mall and now, I have no idea where they shifted.
Reading 1984. It is very weird to read this again with the way the world is and the polarized politics here in the US.
John Banville - The Sea lives up to its billing as the 2005 Man Booker Prize winner imho he's very very good in describing things with words...i think that's all i can say(and btw you may need a dictionary while reading the book)
Off topic,,, Hey it looks like Leian is just a few posts away from 1000 posts! Be sure to spread all the new rep power around...
2 more to go Leian... fast fast. Anyone of you know any used bookstore in Penang island? I heard a lot about those that were used to be in Macallister Road, but that was a long time ago. And I heard they moved to Penang Road or something. Any comments and map would be much appreciated. I love buying books, but when it comes to reading, it's a whole different story. I just "couldn't" find the time. Too many to do and so little time. Applies to my game buying habit too.
