Greetings, After reading the Geforce 8800GT review, I would really like to have it in my new rig which I'll be buying around Dec. I wonder what mobo I should go with it. Oh and BTW, I'm going with Intel. XD But if there's a greater deal with AMD, I don't mind XD. My budget is around 3K (Excluding LCD/Monitor). Thanks a lot.
Okay, I'm going to make a quick guess here... E4500 or E6xxx series Intel Asus P5K (the lowest end one.. with 4 DDR2 slots and 4 sata and priced around RM300, very good!) 2GB DDR2 RAM (1GB + 1GB) 160 - 320GB HDD 8800GT video card Acbel/Enermax/Enlight/Coolermaster (450W and above, with 6-pin PCI-E power connector) That's all.
RM 3K (US$870)? Hmm.. The NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT is going for around RM 850-900, right? That's going to eat up almost a third of your budget. So, yeah, you will have to get a lower-end system... probably E4500 or E6320, that range? No matter what, get more RAM, at least 2GB since it's so cheap. You will need it for Vista.. and games.
Yes... must get a truckload of them. RAM prices has gone too freaking rock-bottom! I want to add another stick of 1GB to my current comp later... but WinXP wouldn't like 3GB...
not sure... sorry... quite blur on operating systems above 3GB RAM... will 3GB RAM work okay on XP Pro anyway?
Oh yea, RM. I forgot to mention it If I go with AMD, will it losened my budget more? I have a friend who goes with AMD, he said it's quite cheap (for the processor) compared to an Intel rig. I don't really multi task much actually, so I'm cool. I just don't want a rig that will bottleneck.
Well, you would. But an Intel Core 2-based system would really be the best thing to pair with the 8800 GT.
You can get lower end intels for pretty cheap too. And if you don't want a right that will bottleneck, buying an amd over an intel is umm kinda a step in the wrong direction there.
I agree! Yeah, if the threadstarter purchase a simple P5K board, it'll at least help him to upgrade to 45nm processors and also quad cores if he wanted to do so. AMD's offering's currently difficult for further upgrades nowadays... I admit I really love the P5K + E2180 for a dirt-cheap and no-frills gaming system. (I built one for my best friend and he enjoyed it so much!) At the very least he/she could get him/herself a E4xxx or an E6xxx later if feels like it.
Cool. I'll stick to Intel then. XD Intel and P5K it is. Thanks a lot for all the suggestions. Really appreciate it.
Yeah, great choice! I will recommend you the Asus P5KPL-VM - it's cheap, and pair it up with the E4500 or the E6xxx series processor. This board is sturdy enough already - if you insist of a wifi, there's a wifi version, but it'll be very expensive. At the very least, you can still change to a Quad or a faster 45nm ones if you feel like it.
Cool. Nah, I won't be using WiFi. I just checked Asus P5KPL-VM out. It looks awesome. BTW, I have an inquiry. Since the 8800GT will be using PCIE 2.0. Do you think that by Dec, there'll be a new mobo out that supports it? And like what the review said, there'll be minimal effect right even if I use PCIE 1.1?
Don't worry about PCI Express 2.0. The current PCI Express 1.1 works just as well. Just look at the amazing scores I got with PCI Express 1.1. The additional bandwidth has very little effect on the performance of the card. So, don't worry too much about it.
Oh man... I forgot that the 8800GT uses the pci-e 2.0... could this work in that P5KPL-VM? If it works fine, well that board is pretty suitable right now. Be reminded that the P5KPL-VM doesn't have an onboard video - so if there's any gfx card problems, you might need a spare one for this.
