    Fellow residents of Mutiara Damansara!

On the 25th of February, we attended a meeting with MRT Corp, MMC-Gamuda and Mudajaya at the TTDI Community Center. This meeting was to address the issue of land encroachment by the construction of the Curve MRT station, which we are glad to report, has been resolved to our satisfaction.

However, during that meeting, we discovered a bigger problem - MRT Corp and MMC-Gamuda are planning to construct a new Entrance C and a new taxi and bus layby right next to Zone A of Mutiara Homes, along Jalan PJU 7/1.

If you take a look at the original artist's impression as presented to the residents of Mutiara Damansara, the bus layby was originally designed to be under the MRT station itself, just like the Bangsar LRT station.

In the most recent plan though, they moved this layby from under the station (which incidentally is directly in front of Surian Tower) to a tiny sliver of land next to Zone A of Mutiara Homes.

To be precise, this layby is to be situated within the 150 meter stretch of Jalan PJU 7/1 between the Persiaran Surian junction and the Jalan PJU 7/7 junction.

Well, what does the layby look like? Take a look.

The layby is a very small one, because it has to fit within that tiny stretch of road. That's why they only allocated space for 3 private cars, 3 taxis and a single bus!

Even their plan is extremely optimistic, because they expect all 6 cars to queue up nicely and TIGHTLY, and that there would only be one bus at the layby.

If there are more cars, taxis or buses or if they don't park themselves nicely, they will block one of just two lanes that is PJU 7/1.

    Traffic Killer

Everyone who lives in or around Mutiara Damansara knows just how heavy traffic is on Jalan PJU 7/1. After all, it is the only conduit between Penchala Link and Kota Damansara / Bandar Utama. Imagine if they start routing buses and taxis through it!

What's even worse is the fact that these buses and taxis that drop or pick up passengers at the layby will need to make a U-turn at the PJU 7/7 traffic light, before they add to the traffic on the opposite lanes of PJU 7/1!

    The Solution

The Mutiara Damansara Residents' Association (MUDORA) and the Surian Condominiums Management Corporation have decided to reject the bus and taxi layby outright. Letting them place the layby there would result in untenably bad traffic conditions for everyone in Mutiara Damansara.

Looking at the Bangsar LRT station, which is the best approximation for our situation, we can see that their design makes a lot more sense. Their layby is directly under the station, so passengers not only have a short walk down, the buses and taxis also do not need to turn into a side road and make a U-turn.

MRT Corp and MMC-Gamuda are adamant that the plans have been finalized, even though there was no MBPJ approval for neither the layby, nor Entrance C, which was only added to channel passengers to the layby.

To that end, both MUDORA and the Surian Condominiums MC will be sending official letters to MRT Corp and MMC-Gamuda to cease and desist all activities related to the bus and taxi layby. In addition, we will be approaching MBPJ and YB Elizabeth Wong for assistance in the matter.

In the meantime, please SHARE this note with your family and friends. We will be passing out petitions for residents to sign. Please help us rope in as many residents as you can. We will also be organizing a public protest like we did for the DASH highway debacle. If you are interested to help out (with the media, organizing the protest, etc.), please let me know.

    Thank you!

For those who are interested in reading the actual letters we are sending out, here are the MUDORA letters that will be delivered to MRT Corp, MMC-Gamuda and MBPJ.
