Sin22: I think you totally misunderstood what I'm trying to explain. Capabilities means OVERDRIVE and temperature monitoring. That's the reason I bought this card!

@Sin 22 I also have a 128 mb 9800 pro modded into a 9800 xt and I don't see any differences if I compare my benchmarks with someone who has a real XT. I must admit it took me hours to find a suitable BIOS for my 9800 pro with hynix memory but at the end I found onde. A modded 9800 xt BIOS with 128 mb and overdrive disabled. :D

and this is where i'm screwed

i'm 100% sure even though i haven't checked, that i have the 350 core, and i have the samsung ram which means this mod is useless to me :(

damn... and i was so hoping to get more performace out of it

    :wall:

How can you be 100% sure when you haven't check it? ;) Do you know my 256MB card was 'detected' as R350 BIOS before the BIOS flash?

If you have a relatively new R9800 Pro (bought this year), chances are high.

haha, a small misunderstanding then my friend. I personally have no need for those capabilites anyhow :D

    No problem. ;)

Just wondering, can you extract the extra performance by flashing an R350 128MB card with XT BIOS?

Nope, not at all as I have shown here.

H3INZ: Which BIOS are you using ? The Club3D one as I'm using that as well, if it aint, could you pass me a link to whichever one you are using as I'd like to compare the two. i know different BIOSes give different results and people on Samsung RAM are recommended to try the Gigacube E-Die one, as supposedly it increased scores by a bit as well as o/cing headroom.

well, just because of the samsung ram

got this card in feb. with a 5yr warranty as a replacment when my 1st one literally caught on fire from a power surge - nice 2" flames and all  (yeah, lost the psu, board, cpu and ram as well)

i kinda figured if it's got the older ram, it'll probably have the older core too
of course, you have a 256mb model though so things are different

and what's this about the Gigacube E-Die bios?
for points 1-4 as you pointed out, Sin22, none of them make any real difference to me, except #3 - that'd be nice so i don't have to reboot
#2 is where the "problem" comes in
if all i get is a measly 70 marks more, since i don't (as far as i still know) have the r360 core and i wouldn't get any of the extra features, is it really worth the effort?

Well, you assumed wrong. :D The R360 128MB is virtually identical to the old 128MB, same RAM, same PCB, but they swapped the R350 to R360. So there's no way to be sure until you remove the cooler. ;)

    but i hate rebooting!

i dont wanna! you can't make me! whaaaaaa!!

really, there's gotta be some way of finding out...

let's assume i have the R360 core, then (obviously) i have the samsung ram

and if i have the R350 with the samsung - same question

does the mod make sense to do even though i have the slower ram?

    been there, ty ;)

he's got the newer ram and the newer core

the older stuff, with the older core - that's the big Q of wether it's worth it or not

    faster/slower

    2.8ns RAM instead of 2.5/2.2ns

    Chai Administrator Staff Member

All 9800 Pro 128MB sold since the first card it was released till today is still the same 2.8ns RAM, normally Samsung! 2.2 and 2.5ns are only for 9800 Pro 256MB models and the 9800XT.

    Ok, my mistake...

This is the first time I've seen a 2.0ns memory on 9800 series! But I wasn't totally incorrect, most Samsung are still usinf 2.8ns, which is the most common configuration. Even most Powercolor 9800 are Samsung 2.8ns. Maybe they ran out of stock. :p
