Many people know how to flash the motherboard BIOS as well as the benefits of doing so. But not many people know about flashing the video BIOS. Some aren't even aware there IS a video BIOS!

So today, Chai and I present a guide on video BIOS flashing. We will touch on what the video BIOS is, why it should be "flashed" and how to do it. Come and check it out if you are interested in flashing your video BIOS!

I have just read the video card bios flashing article and its easy to understand. Also, I knew there had to be a reason or two why I keep old videocards~parts lol... a pci video card would come in real handy if something went wrong.

A big thanks to you two for writing this article (and for sending it our way). It couldn't have come at a better time! I also work at DeltaChrome.com and I'm currently testing 2 cards: the S8 and S8 Nitro 256MB. It just so happens that I need to flash the BIOS on the S8 Nitro with a new BIOS revision I received, but I've personally never done this b4 and was scrounging around for some decent directions. And, then this guide makes it's way into my mailbox!

Looking over it briefly, it's very easy to understand and follow step by step. I'll be flashing the video BIOS on my S8 Nitro shortly and will report back with the results (if anyone's interested).

Once again, keep up the great work on all the guides and articles! :thumb:

Problem after flashing an r9800 pro to xt

    hi there!

Have a problem with my r9800 pro that i flashed with an xt bios. After a days use i got this strange black screen when i was playing a game and after rebooting my screen would not come from suspend mode. figured it was my vga card and was correct. Planed to flash it back to original bios, but after installing my pci card and made it work, it wouldent post with the bad r9800 pro in the agp slot.

My mb is an abit ai7 and it stops on the post code 25 where it checks for an valid video bios. and some other stuff.

Since i don't have an other mobo to flash on i need to know if it's posible that my card is totaly dead, or if my problem of flashing is related to the motherboard not supporting a agp vga card that has a bad bios, even if a pci card is present and set to boot first?

    any help would be grateful.

    Hmm...

I 'sort off' faced a similar problem as you. That was with my R9500 flased to a R9700 Pro BIOS. It worked for a long time, a few months. One day, I was playing some games, I get very weird stuttering while playing ET. I though it was HDD swapping, so I decided to reboot to see if that's the problem. But unfortunately, the system failed to boot up again. I get video card error beep. Knowing that the card is causing the problem. I tried the same card on my 2 secondary systems, either doesn't boot, or the same video card error beep. So my R9500 was officially dead.

Unfortunately, I think your card is dead as well...And I don't think it's related to the BIOS flash.

You can try flashing the BIOS again. Make sure you changed the Init Display First to PCI. Check here for more info.

But chances are, you won't be able to flash the BIOS at all. :(
