    Hey all,
i was after some upgrade advice Please!!

OK- so ive had this pretty basic system for a few years now and am getting alot more serious about uses for my computer. I can use a computer no probs! BUT am very limited in knowledge of its hardware components. A bit of a n00b. :p

Well i need to do alot of video editing soon and am looking at getting some resource hogging games. I know ill be going to make the switch to Vista (prob Home Premium).

So at the moment i have the following: (please ask me to provide more ifo specifically if you need it)
So the motherboard is QDI P4I845GVM Pro
    Intel Celeron 82 2.4ghz/128/400
    256mb RAM (SHRIEK!) NCP-NC669 DDR PC2700
    Phoenix BIOS Pent IV
I have a 80gb harddrive whacked in there
CDR/RW writer. (will need to get a dvd writer for upgrade)

hmm, dont know how ive lived so long with such crap RAM!?!
OK- so thats the basics ay?? Any other info you need, please tell me!?

So i am wondering basically if i should upgrade parts, buy a whole new motherboard, or just go all out get a whole new system and customize from there. Cost is an issue though...

Whats my options?? ANY HELP would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks!

If ur motherboard supports PCI-E u can still survive, just get a good graphic card and add some RAM.

else get a new computer :p

This should be your motherboard - http://www.qdigrp.com/qdisite/eng/products/P4I845GVM.htm

Looks like it doesn't have an AGP port for you to add a 3D card upgrade.

IMHO, maybe it's best you upgrade to a new system.... But if you have limited budget, the best (in terms of value for money) upgrade you can get is RAM. Get at least 1GB of RAM. :thumb:

    i see
    well thanks for the reply...

i am yet to decide what im going to do, but i think that i will just "build my own" as they say

im thinking really up to date components and newer technology (starting with DDR2 or DDR3 RAM) :p

whats anyones thoughts on the P35 chipset by intel or similar?

fyi, therell be a new amd phenom processor n nvidia mcp72 which supports hybrid sli coming in d near future.. p35 or x38... only supports xfire... if u wantd 2 use d ati gpu, then its ok... or perhaps 2800xtx2? quad gpus?

but as we all know, nvidia offers d most outstanding gpus n theyr xperimenting x2 rite now... quad gpus in d near future 4 sure... (as they did 2 7950) so optd 4 an sli mobo shud b handy...

n dis is a smily showing dat d red comp wantd something fr green team... maybe d x2 tech? --->

Unless you can afford 2 8800 Ultras, there's no point in getting dual GPU setup.
