I read the article about the Virtual Memory optimization. Well, my question is , what if i move the paging file to a USB stick, it's definitively faster than a hardrive, and slower than RAM.
Unless you have a really old hard drive there is no way a USB stick is faster than a hard disk, you're better off moving the paging file to a smaller dedicated hard disk if u have a spare one lying around.
Actually, USB drives are not faster than hard drives. They just have fast access times because unlike hard drives, they do not have any mechanical heads to move, or platters to spin. Also, USB drives are faster at reads than writes. Their writes tend to be very slow. You can see that in all our flash drive reviews. Finally, USB drives are well, bottlenecked by the USB 2.0 port which maxes out at 480mbits/s or 60MB/s. The new SATA drives can burst at 3Gbits/s. In other words, it's best to stick to a hard drive. Incidentally, flash drives are removable. Not advisable to stick your swapfile there. If you accidentally pull it out...
