Hey! my old 22" screen is dead, and upon searching for a new 23"-24" screen to replace it, I realized that my current PC is 3 years old so I was thinking that maybe it's high time for me to upgrade it? my current rig : screen : Viewsonic vx2255wmb (22" - 1680x1050) *DECEASED* cpu : Intel C2D E8400 @stock mobo : Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R (P45 chipset) video card : Sapphire HD4890 Vapor-X ram : Kingston HyperX 2x2 Go DDR2 PC6400 Cas 4 HDD : Raptor 36Go 8Mo (x3) sound : onboard chip PSU : Corsair TX650W what I think would be a good replacement : screen : LG W2363D-PF (23" - 120Hz - 1900x1080) cpu : Intel Core i5 2500K mobo : Gigabyte GA-P67X-UD3-B3 (P67 chipset) video card : MSI N560GTX-TI Twin Frozr II/OC (GTX 560 Ti 1 Go) ram : G.Skill Kit Extreme3 2x4 Go PC12800 Ripjaws X Cas 9 SSD : Crucial C300 64Go sound : onboard chip HDD : Raptors for games/pagefile/temp files PSU : Corsair TX650W (in green are the old parts I would reuse) so what do you guys think? Can I go with just the new screen and video card? or should I completely change rig? we're talking about a gaming rig here also, I think my current PSU (Corsair TX650W) would be enough for that new setup....wouldn't it? thanks for the help!
The Corsair TX650W is plenty enough for your rig. But IMHO, there's no need to upgrade to an SSD for a gaming rig. I would definitely go for the RAM upgrade though.
hey Adrian so basically you suggest this for me : screen : LG W2363D-PF (23" - 120Hz - 1900x1080) cpu : Intel Core i5 2500K mobo : Gigabyte GA-P67X-UD3-B3 (P67 chipset) video card : MSI N560GTX-TI Twin Frozr II/OC (GTX 560 Ti 1 Go) ram : G.Skill Kit Extreme3 2x4 Go PC12800 Ripjaws X Cas 9 HDD : Raptors sound : onboard chip PSU : Corsair TX650W
mostly RPG/strategy and action games, some FPS too lately I've been playing GTA IV, Shogun 2, Fallout New Vegas, The Witcher 2, L4D
I think a new screen and a new graphics card is more than enough. SSD is good for general Windows, then get another big Caviar Black drive to store your games.
Well, trust me. I upgraded from E8400 to i7-870, it is arguably one of my most disappointing upgrade I've done so far. Unless you need the quad core performance for some intense image processing, video encoding performance, it is not really a noticable upgrade to me. On the other hand, SSD is easily one of my favourite upgrades. Everything is noticably faster, especially when loading Windows. Application launches are slightly faster too.
interesting Intel are releasing their new Ivy Bridge in Q1 2012 anyway, so maybe I should wait to upgrade my PC, and get a SSD+win7 instead
