Why hack them to be a E2000?
Well, just like so many other BIOS mods.
Well, it's not necessary, which is why I'm not doing it.
Ok, found the difference. Mainly larger NVRAM on the E2000.
did a google and found this...
seems linksys do support loopback
NAT Loopback Routers - OpenSim
Yes, some routers, mostly the older WRT54G types. I don't think the new routers support loopback, not without using a hacked firmware.
Since I'm changing, might as well get a Gigabit N one, it's sad, I would love to get 3Com routers but guess what, HP BOUGHT OVER 3COM !!!
They are intentionally disabled for security reasons?
I doubt it. I think they were disabled for product differentiation.
I don't think so. I can't find this feature even on my E3000.
Maybe it's more of a feature that many people don't need, but for those who need, it's extremely important.
I don't think that is true.
"Many DSL routers/modems prevent loopback connections as a security feature. "
What kind of security concern there is? Ok, for router, Adrian suggested Linksys 320N, if I flash this to DDWRT, there is loopback support right?
What about modem, I know any cheap modem will do, but if anyone have any suggestion, i will gladly hear it.
WRT320N or E2000 is cheaper in Malaysia?
I know E2000 is cheaper here.
I thought 320N is cheaper here and E2000 is rebadge of the former.
I don't think you are supposed to find this feature in consumer-grade routers anymore. If you want it, you will have to move up to enterprise-grade routers.
The WRT-320N is definitely cheaper. It's considered to be an obsolete model, replaced by the E2000. AFAIK, it's only sold in technologically-backward countries like Malaysia.
FYI, I don't think karhoe has much of a choice. The last time I went to Low Yat Plaza, they only had the E1000. The E2000 and E3000 have "yet to arrive"...
I have seen E2000 if I'm not mistaken.
The E2000 doesn't look like an enterprise level though, seems like we are paying for 'aesthetic' value. I would want to have the antenna poking out LOL
But E2000 + DDWRT can solve it right?
When? Must be quite recent, because when I went to purchase my WRT-320N, there was no E2000 or E3000 in the entire Low Yat Plaza!
