Did you set Vista to automatically download and install updates?

If you did, the Shut Down option would actually change from just "shut down" to "shut down and install the updates".

Do you shut down via the menu or power button? I have a problem like this too, when I shut down the computer automatically restarts :/

well, thats the power button logo you pressed i, vista's shutdown is replaced by hibernate unless it's being changed to shutdown. as for restart, yeah, might be what adrian installs updates and then reboots itself.

Actually Vista does that by default. To check, go to Control Panel -> Windows Update -> Change settings.
