Between an X800XT-PE and a 6800GT, which would you pick? I've a choice on 2nd hand cards and i'm having a dilema on which to choose from.

And yea i know it's a better idea to get the new cards like the 7800GT but, i'm not gonna change my mobo anytime soon so i'm stickin with AGP at the moment.

    Thanks in advance

    Isn't XT-PE a much faster card than 6800GT? But no SM3 though.

If you don't care much about SM3.0, go for the X800XT-PE

Ya the SM3.0 is my main concern here. How much important is it over the 2.0b?

LOL! You should ask that yourself.

I would if i knew the answer. The thing here is not whether i want an SM3.0 or not but rather how much more important it is than the 2.0b

It's just another enhancement in graphics... that's why you should ask yourself whether it's important to you or not.

    SM2b doesn't have HDR?

Well, I'm blur and didn't notice the difference between with HDR or none. But I got myself a 6800GT for RM1.3K. :thumb:

FEAR, COD2, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory have HDR.

The 6800 series doesn't really have enough power to run these games with HDR enabled  Get what I mean? ;)

but the 6800gt cant really run these games when the HDR option is turned on..

it might even struggle at 1024x768

I did play both FEAR and COD2 with HDR, FEAR is a little slow, but COD2 was fine. Very good game.

    exactly what I meant

That's why I recommend X800XT-PE  Since you can't run games smoothly with HDR enabled (same as without HDR  ) and SM3.0 is not really that important anyway :)

I meant at reso higher than the standard 1024x768

I'm very willing to play with HDR at 1024x768. It offers flexibility if you want to enable HDR or not.

1024x768 many jaggies :p Doesn't look very nice to me :D

but then again this is a very subjective matter

Well, been thru the 320x240 era, I don't really need high res. The most important thing is still the overall gaming experience. I think HDR really makes a lot of difference. More than even AA, AF, high res etc...

yes no doubt HDR is indeed very very cool.

performance hit is quite depending on how the developers implement it...

IMO, valve writes the best game. their code is extremely efficient! just look at the performance figure. it runs wonderfull on mainstream graphics, and yet u dun lose much of the mind-blowing effects.

unlike EA :snooty: :snooty: :snooty: :snooty: :snooty: :snooty:

wonder when can we get motion blur effect :D it looks so cool!

I don't really like the motion blur, introduced by Voodoo5! :haha:
