Demand will certainly go up, but it won't go up much unless the Raptor has capacity to match. Right now, the limited capacity of the Raptor is as much a drawback as its high price. There's really a HUGE difference in capacity between the Raptors and 7200 RPM drives. This wasn't the case when the Seagate Barracuda first debuted. Although it was a 7200 RPM drive, it still had a large capacity, comparable with 5400 RPM drives.
Yeah but most people have the Raptor as a primary drive, then 1 or more larger 7200rpm drives for storing documents, multimedia, etc.
Yup, use the fast drive for running games and stuff, and have a secondary drive for storage. Sounds good to me.
This is exactly what I'm doing! WD740 as primary, and 7200.8 400GB as secondary...LOL! But since I don't game as much...hmm...I totally forgot about the 50GB partition (20GB for Windows)! I guess I'm going to throw the games in there!
i read it from other forums.. i cant be sure if its true.. 750gb is simply too much for me.. i would rather spend the same $ on a lower capacity but faster drive
Well, some of the points by Psy is true, but that's because the Chevy example is quite different. 1. You have tons of choices other than Corvette. 2. The built quality is above average at best. 3. Branding issue. If you notice the above, none of this applies to Raptor at all. There's virtually no competition for Raptor, just like Creative's X-Fi. It's really up to the comsumers to decide whether it's worth it for themselves. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1021&thread=18249769 The 30D which is very similar to D200 in terms of features is selling a lot better than D200 because of the price. And D200 is selling much better than D70 despite the price difference. There's a lot more factors...
You got that right on baby... If you are like me who's fed up of burning 'data' into DVD every week. You will not think of performance but capacity. I just got 15GB free last night for more stuffs... sigh... 600GB and still not enough... God...
Hmm...I got an idea. Buy a datacenter to put a bunch of hard drives in so that you never have to delete again. Surely you could not possibly fill up 1,000,000 750GB drives. I mean, that would be an incredibly large amount of pr0n, Dashken...
That's because you never think of loosing your data, or doesn't care. 750GB is far too difficult to backup.
Huh? I am not Chai or PsYkHoTiK man.. Yup... that's why I only put movies and 'you know what' and also software on that 400GB. If it's gone, it's gone... hmm... but I think I have to backup my other drives. 750GB too difficult to backup? Buy 2 lo... and mirror it. But dang... I'm not as rich as you... It's not pr0n. I download English non-pr0n movies nowadays. Coz hdd no space for pr0n. No need to download coz have a colleague who downloads... each time he gives me 40GB worth... don't know where to keep, deleted most of them. Keep good ones on my portable harddrives and office notebooks. . Have to find time to burn them...
