    :) i currently am using a BFG 6800 Ultra 256MB PCIE.

however after look around, i'm wondering whether i should just downgrade myself to a 7300GT instead.

i've been observing the 7300GT, it's fast and it's OCable (ok so it goes even faster).

now my gaming is simple - i'd like to play as high details as i can at 1024x768 and 1280x1024 once i get my 19" LCD.

so yea - i'm looking for opinions. fire away guys.......

Why downgrade? :D I think you'd better keep your 6800 Ultra.

thought so, but i'm posting here is cos i'm afraid i might left out something in the comparison.

see, most benchies i come by is 7300GT vs other 7xxx while 6800 Ultra against 6xxx

3dmarks wise, it looks like the 7300GT is very close to 6800Ultra and when OC, can beat them.

however specs wise, i see that 6800 Ultra should be able to handle higher resolutions and stuff better overall. perhaps more towards 7600GT level?

Erm.... yeah, 7300GT can score very high in 3DMark. However in actual gaming 7300GT is still no match for 6800Ultra

Yeah I think 7600GT would be a better downgrade.

I have already tested this. But I'm not sure when the article will be posted. *hint at Adrian*

I think 7600GT is faster than 6800 Ultra

I bet that depends on what version of 3DMark is used.
Compare the 3DMark03-results and you'll see a difference in favour of your current card!
Even 3DMark05 should be in your favour.

Yes, 7600GT is faster than 6800Ultra, but 7300GT is not far off 7600GT. I guess it's pretty close among 3 of them.

    7600GT>6800Ultra>7300GT

Newer generation video cards usually runs faster on 3DMark.

newer generation cards should run newer games faster too :shifty:

Newer cards do better with the latest benchmarks, where old cards just might not run at all, since they don't have the latest shaders, bells and whistles. But it's not quite true when you run older benchmarks that rely mostly on fill rate.

Here we can compare the data for 6800 Ultra vs 7300GT:
    Fill rate: Ultra 6400 MTexels/s, GT <4600 MTexels/s.
    Memory bandwidth: Ultra 35.2 GB/s, GT <24 GB/s.

If, on the other hand, we were to compare cards the same "level" but different generations, like FX5200 vs 7300GT, the newer generations won't lose.

This spring I did some serious comparison as I upgraded my computer.
Old rig: Athlon XP 1900+ equivalent (overclocked 1800+), 512 MB RAM @283 MHz, GeForce FX 5900 SE.
New rig: Athlon64 3200+, 2x512 MB RAM @400 MHz (dual channel), GeForce 7800GT (slightly factory overclocked).
(All other components stayed the same.)

The new rig ruled in 3DMark06, 05, 03 as well as Aquamark3.
In 3DMark2001SE there were some tests that were even between the two setups, and the old rig even performed marginally better than the new in some of the 3DMark2000 tests!
The major noticeable difference was of course in 3DMark06, that in the graphics tests went from "slide show" (~1 fps average) to "somewhat fluent" (~15 fps average), and in the CPU test from impossible (not running) to slide show (<0.5 fps).

    Cheers

LoL maybe I didn't make it clear enough, I was refering to cases like 6600GTvsX1600Pro where X1600Pro will outperform 6600GT in 3DMark05/06 but not in games and yeah, like you said the older generations will perform better in older 3DMarks cuz older 3DMarks are more reliant on fill rate power.

Anyway, thats some really serious comparison you did right there

yeah that's the thing. i spent like RM 600 on 6800 Ultra and now the 7300GT so cheap (RM 350 or then) yet so close. :D when OCed can be better

was thinking downgrade so i have extra $$$ to spend on other parts. :D

oh btw - i never trusted 3dmark and sadly that's the only comparison i have so far, that's why i posted here cos you guys i'm sure would've tested them on other stuff. :thumb:

    btw no alcohol pls.

I've just checked my results again.

    6800Ultra => 7600GT > 7300GT

6800Ultra is very close or just slightly faster than 7600GT.
