No, it isn't a political speech. It was a speech on 'Human Rights in Malaysia', held in Monash University, Clayton. He was invited to speak by the Castan Centre for Human Rights, a group which consists of several law professors and human rights experts.

He can't go back to Malaysia because of his position as President of the 'Free Anwar' campaign, and because he has close ties to Anwar. Should he step foot in Malaysia now, he will UNDOUBTEDLY be arrested under the ISA for inciting riots.

I'm not sure about any agreement made between Mahathir and Badawi. As I have said, Badawi is widely (among the public and within inner circles) known as a simple, humble and good man. Its unlikely that he would make an agreement to keep his friend (Anwar) in prison for his own gain. That said, I can't prove anything.

wiiz, that question was asked by a member of the audience. The simple fact is the judiciary in Malaysia is by and large controlled by the executive arm of government. Lets not kid ourselves here. If Eric Chia could get bail for corruption, how come Anwar couldn't. If Balwant Singh could get bail for murder, how come Anwar couldn't for a much lesser charge? I don't mean to be cynical but Badawi could release Anwar. What would probably happen, should Anwar be released before serving his full time, is that Badawi would make a recomendation to the King to release Anwar and then Anwar would be released. It would make both sides look good. That was what Dr. Abdul Rahim said as well.

Justice? My foot! Just marvel at the might of the M'sian Prime Minister (in his country-la). :snooty:

Frankly speaking I do not really know how Abdullah can get to become our Prime Minister... He just doesn't look 'rough' and 'tough' enough. Maybe sooner or later he'll become a 'puppet'... Just maybe.

As far as I can see now, his 'anti-corruption campaign' is not really successful. Sure, a lot of government 'menteri's are accused of corruption, but so what? The cases will delay and delay and delay until they just fade. The menteri will get away, as always. The price is just to resign your menteri post... You'll still get to keep all your 'dirty' money.

What? You don't want to resign? Then be prepared to be fired... And maybe convicted of SODOMY. :haha:

There are lots of jokers retained in the cabinet. Perhaps Badawi needs some *entertainment*.

Remember Mr. Bow Tie? Previously he made a couple of headlines from his Tourism seat. And now he is the information minister. Yup! The ban Malay songs with rojak language issue was from his ministry.

Oh well... Malaysia Boleh! Having a few jokers around might be a good thing to tickle our funny bone fancy.

Samy Vellu, he's going to be there for the long run ;)
Badawi won't dare touch the component parties. It will create too much tension. Consider ourselves lucky Ling Leong Sek is gone :)

Bow Tie, well.. I don't understand either. What about Najib eh? Still have to guts to call the NS a 'resounding success after 1 trainee died, 1 raped, dozens pregnant, countless assaulted, countless cases of ill-preparation. And those are just the reported ones. Lets not even begin to think how many more rapes and assaults there are.

I was joking with a friend, any other country, the Minister involved would either resign, or be fired immediately. In Japan, the Minister involved would have either committed suicide or performed the hara-kiri. In Malaysia, its a 'resounding success' because only 1 died.

On to another politician:- Khir Toyo. No need for elaboration here :shifty:

ANwar is trying his luck now to appeal. But from the looks of it, his chances are pretty bleak.

"Jailed ex-deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim received a new setback at his final appeal hearing today when the judges refused to consider a bail application.

Anwar's lawyers had applied for bail in the hope that he could return home and attend court daily until a judgement is made on his appeal against a sodomy conviction.

Counsel Karpal Singh asked the judges to "focus on the weird and bizarre events" in the sodomy case, such as the changing of the date of the alleged offence and the refusal to allow a fresh alibi.

Anwar, once heir apparent to former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, was convicted in August 2000 of sodomising Azizan Abu Bakar, an official driver.

The original charge stated that Anwar sodomised Azizan one night in May 1992. It was changed to one night in May 1994 after prosecutors realised that the condominium where the alleged event took place did not exist at that time.

Government lawyers later again changed the date to "sometime between January and March 1993."

You know, I'm surprised the judges are still behaving like this, even under Badawi...

This final appeal, its not making much news in the mainstream media right? I'm not in Malaysia so I keep abreast from www.thestar.com.my which doesn't seem to carry any news on this appeal. Malaysiakini reports on it though, but at RM150/year, the subscription is now beyond me ;)

badawi, subscription is still RM100/year if you do so before June 1st. So subscribe now!

TB: His lawyers are his supporters. Anyway, no matter how many lawyers you get, even if they are the best of the best, the other party has the best judges in control. Its a dead end road.

Mr. Bow Tie aka Kadir Sheikh

Here are some of his greatest moments.

    1. Suggested that taxi drivers should be shot dead as they are same as communists. http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_657954.html?menu=news.quirkies

    2. Chinese are unpatriotic. You're not patriotic if you dun wave your flags!!!! 1000 flags is 1000 times more patriotic than a single flag guy.

    3. Attacked AirAsia as "From RMXX.XX" type of promotion is misleading and robbing consumers. At the same time, he is tightlipped over MAS's overpriced air tickets.

    4. No Skin on TV!!!! Claims that TV is showing excessive sex! I wonder how stricter can they get. There are so many cuts here and there before this joker showed up. Just take a look at MTV and Channel [V]! It's filled with bullet time (slow down in order to cover up some sensitive scene) and repeated loops.

He claims that some people find Astro programmes as obscene. I wonder if thats true or not. My God. if you treat simple stuff as porn, switch off the TV and cancel your subscription.

IMHO, this Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir joker should be the one Mahathir should have sent to prison for "sodomy".

This man is a disgrace to his colleagues and to all Malaysians.

From his attack on AirAsia, one might think he was MAS's mouthpiece.

And flag waving = patriotism?
