The Crab Nebula in Taurus, formed by the death (Supernova) of a star. Taken through 3556mm f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain. I have another 6+ hours of exposure to add to it and I think my RGB colour balance needs a little adjusting... I'll update later.
Wow! That is a spectacular shot! I don't know what's wrong with the colour balance though. What is it supposed to be? BTW, how did you get such a clear shot? Atmospheric conditions must be excellent where you are.
The "seeing" as it is called was pretty good. This typically happens when you have a dome of high pressure near or overhead. As for the balance, it is up to the photographer to balance the RGB channels accordingly and I seem to struggle on "real" color balance, but this is a hot topic for astrophoto folks. Next up is some "wide-field" stuff @ 600mm focal length, but the full moon is approaching first just in time for the new year.
