Just thought that we'll have more than 9 planet in our Solar System, but... http://msnbc.msn.com/id/14489259/ http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_depth/5282440.stm Pluto, no longer is a planet in our solar system.
Oh noes, now they have to come up with a new sentence to help kids remember the order of the planets (My Very Educated Mother Just Sewed Us New Pants was the one I learnt )
Cast your vote on Pluto's ultimate fate I casted... 'No way! Pluto will always be the ninth planet in my book.'
Aiyah.. Now it's NOT a planet??? Well, I guess you will have to remember them as ... "My Very Educated Mother Just Sewed Us Nothing"
Well they've been arguing this point a lot because of the eliptical orbit of pluto and also because of the kuiper belt that Pluto is considered to be part of. In fact they say Charon was a captured kuiper belt object. Well I think its good that they finally had a scientific definition because prior to this the definition of planets is "Those who wander in the sky." On the flipside if Pluto wasn't stripped of its planet status, then we still wouldn't have nine planets but 12-15. Those would include the Kuiper Belt objects (which prompted the new resolution in the first place) such as Xena (bigger than pluto) and Sedna among others. The IAU has actually done a good job at standardizing constellations and setting standards. This was one of the more cast aside thing I guess. So the new definition.
