The new x264 HD Benchmark 5.0 is here! This is the improved version of the x264 HD Benchmark 4.0 benchmark which had become a standard CPU benchmark for Tech ARP as well as many other hardware enthusiasts. We have completely revamped the benchmark by using a new 1080p video sample, as well as added both 64-bit and 32-bit tests using the latest r2200 x264 encoder. There have been other major changes under the hood as well, to make it a better stress test for newer multi-core processors. All these changes make the x264 HD Benchmark 5.0 the new best tool for testing the full capabilities of modern multi-core, multi-threaded processors. Do note that due to the changes, the results from x264 HD Benchmark 5.0 are NOT comparable with results from older versions of the benchmark. In addition to the release of the benchmark, we will be compiling benchmark results for this new version. So please contribute your new benchmark results to this project! Link : x264 HD Benchmark 5.0

One of the reasons why we took so long to come up with this version is because we took a while to test both a single test based on the Constant RateFactor (CRF) as well as a 2-pass test, which cannot support CRF but must use a constant bitrate. What we found is that the CRF test would not adequately test the CPU's performance because it would be greatly restricted by the system's memory bandwidth. In fact, it was not able to even tax a Core i5-2430M mobile processor by more than 60% (peak). After numerous tests and adjustments, we felt that the best way forward was to return to the 2-pass, fixed-bitrate test because : 1. The first pass practically mimics the results of the single-pass CRF test, and is similarly limited by the system's memory bandwidth. Therefore, it would serve as an excellent test of a system's memory bandwidth. 2. The second pass was able to force an quad-core Core i7 processor to hit 98-100% usage on all cores. Therefore, it would be a much better CPU test than a single CRF test. As for your other comments, I can understand that the CRF method is able to deliver the same results (if not better) at less time. So yes, I think we should change that to something like... You can encode video in a single pass, but two passes will typically give a higher quality result. "You can encode video in a single pass, but two passes may give a higher quality result, at the expense of much greater encoding time." Or... You can encode video in a single pass, but the benchmark uses two passes to better examine the CPU's performance." As for the memory-intensive comment on the first pass, that was our observation after testing out both the first pass as well as the CRF test, as well as other quality settings.

I ran the benchmark twice, and neither time did it output my system information. I'm not sure why. I have a Core i7 920. It is running at 2.87MHz, with default settings, Turbo and Hyperthreading are on.
Did you run the "Run Benchmark.vbs" file? Then it should check whether you have your UAC (User Account Control) turned on and will prompt you to turn it off if it's turned on. Once you've done that, you'll need to reboot your system. Here's a clearer picture on how to turn off UAC - How to Disable and Turn Off UAC in Windows 7 My Digital Life UAC needs to be turned off to allow cpuz to grab information from the system as it needs Administrator rights to run.

That's the funny thing - I have (and had) UAC completely turned off. It is on the option "Never Notify". BTW, when I export the text file manually from CPU-Z with my system info, it contains the info that Turbo is turned on. Is it impossible for you to get that info programatically?
